I am ashamed of myself!

why?

simple!

i will explain, it all pertains to my Z4 3.0

i have a mechanical background having been a hands on mechanic for 12 years of my life and generally carry out all my routine maintenance on the cars i own (except the Z4 and X6 oil changes, just to keep the book stamped) i have a track car which keeps my mechanical skills tested on an ongoing basis.

so imagine how suprised i was when whilst out on the cruise on Sunday i had a brake warning light come on (didn't know i was any where near having worn them down).

ok Carrie and I are off to Germany for a few days with a few other members of this and our sister forum so i thought i would take the day off and get the pads sorted and give it a once over ready for the 2000 mile journey!

when i took the righthand front wheel off to remove teh pads the suprise i got was palpable! tyre was worn down on the inside edge, quite normal you might say for a BMW fornt tyre driven in a spirited fashion! and your right, but the bit i was ashamed about was having let my tyres wear down to the CANVAS! yes teh canvas. one tyre was still rubber the other had canvass showing virtually all around teh inside edge of teh tyre, not just a few strnds here and there but over 30mm here and there in width and some areas over 200mm long.

and i should be asamed of my self for not cheching and not knowing (considering how hard we were driving on Sunday)

new tryes come tomorrow and today i had a 4 wheel laser tyre alignment carried by a local garage recommended to me £57 not bad me thinks. fronts were towing out by 7mm or just over 1 deg.

the result is that teh steering is transformed. i always thout it was light (no bl**dy wonder) and now its excellently weighted!

yours, throughly ashamed

Dario

It's one minute for every year of your age.

Under the circumstances I think he should stay in his room until he is very very sorry and promises never to do it again.
