Install coilovers now? or wait till Spring?

Hey guys,

I just recently bought 19" Miro 111 rims and KW V1 coilovers for my 2009 328xi sedan. I was just wondering if I should drive with a stock suspension and rim/tires through winter and install the KW V1s and Miro 111 in spring.

If i install the Miro 111s, I'm forced to buy winter tires for it. But I don't have the budget at the moment.

And if I install the KW V1s now, I'm not sure if thats a good idea before winter season.

What are your thoughts?

You hardly even get snow in Vancouver, so I wouldn't worry too much about doing the suspension. But I still wouldn't drive on 19" summer tires for winter. Have you tried looking for some used winter tires for your stock rims on kijiji or something? I just sold a set of stock run flat all seasons for 350$ yesterday, those probably would've worked for you for winter.

Thats true I guess. But Vancouver weather is very unpredictable. I do have all-season tires running on stock rims right now. So I guess that'll do for winter.

Any height recommendation if i install the coilovers now?

Wait till winter is over. So install around March/April.

There are a lot of posts (see suspension forum) regarding Kw V1 install. I think in the end, go for the height that best suits you. Everyone will give you a different answer. I was told a 'mild' one inch drop all around is sufficient and you won't have to increase the height for the winters. YMMV

My E46 runs on H&R sport cup kit, I can't even get a normal sized jack under the jack pads. It manages just fine in winter, and I'm talking about a real Alberta winter too. If you're ever worried about getting through snow, then proper winter tires will make multitudes more difference than changing the ride height.
