From the lack of any humorous emoticons I can only assume you're half serious. How would you square it with your conscience were your action to cause serious injury or worse? Glad I don't live anywhere near Worcester .

Does it really need a new 'box?

Can you not approach the auto gearbox specialists the Daily Torygraph's motoring guru Honest John recomends, for a repair? Might be worth an ask.

What are the symptoms, btw?

I had a box rebuilt by these guys a few years ago. The local Merc dealer sent all their boxes to them for repair, so I thought they would be good. It was way less than £1k. Worth a call.

That's the point , it wouldn't be me causing the accident , I'd just be "at the wrong place at the wrong time" Taking advantage of people's lack of road sense ( and there is a hell of a lot of it at this point)

Worcester is actually a really nice ! It's the roundabout on junc 6 of the M 5 you need to avoid . Especially if you see a silver e92 335d going round and round the roundabout.

BTW , I'm not at all serious about doing something like that .. You would have to be beyond desperate , and I'm nowhere near that point ... Yet

I'm still just trying to absorb the thought of handing over a rather large sum of money !

I'll check him out thanks

Symptoms ..
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=727400

Spoke to a friend of mine today who is in the know and thinks that the issue could be torque converter related , he is of the opinion that 335d's eat them , either that or a stuck valve on the transmission pack.

Still waiting for clarification of the fault codes from another garage where the car is to be sure.

Before I swapped the southern crush for the relative calm of rural Aberdeenshire, I lived and worked in Droitwich, so I know that Worcester is a fine city; it's just the lunatics on roundabouts you need to look out for .
Glad you clarified your lack of serious intent at deliberately contriving an accident; an appropriate emoticon makes all the difference .

Considering this would be the very forum where you would find all 335D owners complaining of such a thing, I think he is not as much in the know as he claims

First I've heard of a 335d box failing.

I would check what second hand boxes you might source from SPECIALIST BMW breakers who would probaly know all there is to know about ensuring you get the right box.

e.g.: Quarry Motors or FAB Direct

Box failed on my old 335d last year. Needed a new one fitting under warranty.

Although the dealer did say they had not heard of a failure before mine

Unlucky I'd say. Mine was faultless, even with all the stick I gave it.

The fault codes in the DDE as follows,
4BE3 Message (transmission data, 0xBA)
4BE8 Message (transmission data, 0x1A2)
4DF3 Message (torque transmisson, 0xB5)

No clear translations as yet but look ominous

Get it fixed.

There must be hundreds of gearbox specialists around.

Many thanks guys , been in touch with all above & a few more.

Diagnosis appears to be hydraulic oil pump which is failing and causing this juddering and thumping. Pre march 2007 cars are affected the most. As the G'Box iterations increase ( I have v1 type box) the less likely you will see the problem

If someone comes up a fair cash offer I will probably sell.
Due to heavy work commitments and the number of miles I have to do in the next month or so I simply cannot afford downtime. If it comes at a price then C'est la vie.

The car still functions as it should with no undue noises or crunching .. just a hiccup every now and again
