Nice! Pretty much even with 997 Turbo.

Hope it's not a re-post.

Yes, but I'm getting increasingly skeptical of my ability to actually get one sometime in the next 2 years due to demand and dealer mark-ups. At $70K it looks ot be a great car, at $90k? Some other interesting choices...

7:50?? What happened to the sub 7:30 times that where being thrown out there? At 7:50 that's 8 seconds slower than a Z06, looks like it's not turning out to the "Vette killer" some where expecting.

I never heard much about a "sub-7:30" time. But 7:38 was being tossed about quite liberally by just about everyone, even Nissan I think.

In fact the 7:38 time was video recorded and posted:

So for Sportauto to get 12 seconds slower... thats interesting. Things only get quirkier when you take into account the GTR will ONLY have the DCT transmission.

Sport Auto laptimes are often 10-15 seconds slower than other top drivers, this goes for 997 turbo 7.54 / 7.40, RS4 8.09 / 7.58, New Nissan 7.50 / 7.38.

So it only means that Sport Auto tests are consistent and a good measurement if you want to know how fast the cars are compared to each other. But its far from the ultimate laptimes possible for each car.

Which is promising when you remember that they got a 8:05 for the M3. If like the GTR there are 12 seconds to be had out of it, thats not too shabby.

A time of 7:50 is to be expected, like someone else has already said Horst is a very good driver with lots of experience on the ring but the facts still remain that he is not of the caliber that the manufacturers use and he is knocking on a bit.

I am a little surprised that the GTR's time in the hands of SportAuto wasn't closer to that of Nissan's, everyone knows that the GTR is a much easier car to drive quickly than say the M3 will be, it's that old argument of awd vs rwd where awd cars are easier to drive nearer the limit. Is there any knowledge as to what the track conditions where like when Horst did his lap.

P.S. We can all say that it makes us feel a little better in the knowledge that the GTR was only 15s quicker in the hands of the same driver but don't for one minute think that on the ring you could repeat this 15s gap in your hands between the GTR and the M3. I think if any of us got to within 30 seconds of what we could achieve GTR vs M3 I reckon that would be some achievement, the GTR would be a much more accomplished machine in our hands than the M3 could ever be, that was Nissan's goal.

Don't lose hope. I think that after the initial hype dies down... and the people on the list can't find the money, it will get much better. The market for a $70K sports car is only so big.

Even in Japan, with the GT-R's legendary status the initial demand quoted that the cars were back ordered for 11 months. I talked to a dealer this weekend and he said that he could have one built to order and delivered in 3 months AT Japanese MSRP.

Same time as the mighty CSL. That thing seems to be far more than the sum of its parts. This has 110bhp more, bags more torque and 4WD. I hope they go through with a lightweight R35.

7:38 is the Nissan ring time, fully documented, with 2 wet corners estimated to have lost 2 seconds.

7:50 is Sport-Auto's in the "semi-wet".

Sorry, an M3 CSL is not even in the same league as the GT-R.

I'm not losing hope, just feeling a little pessimistic right now is all. I did note somewhere that they were adding a second shift to the GT-R engine production line...so perhaps Nissan will start cranking them out faster than what they said.

I believe the 7:50 time and I definitely called BS when some people posted CGT-like times.....

At the end of the day, it is a nice GT with better handling characteristics than the 911 Turbo but the weight is its downfall.

I would also like to see what tires the GTR did the 7:50 with....

BTW for those who want to make the semi-wet distinction, no one run is perfect at Nordschliefe.....
