Exactly what I have. Out of your options this is the best, but if you have the option to get a 330d I will get that.
MPG wise: - Motorway 550+ - Mixed 400+ - Heavy Heavy Foot Mixed 350+ *On a full tank of Esso Diesel

I think the answer is already there. Assuming the initial purchase price isn't significant to you, a lower mileage and better specced car is a no brainer.
325d has a lot smoother engine than the 320d. Although the mileage isn't as good as the 320 it is still a very good mpg. It is only one insurance group higher and £20 or so more on road tax so the running costs of the two cars will not be hugely different. If they were built before the BMW "savings" exercise, (around the time of the facelift for the saloon) the 325d will have all electric seats with driver seat memory as standard. The 320 will only have partial electric. If after the savings spec reduction, the 325 only gets partial electric seats and the 320 has manual seats (standard specs in all cases.) Also, cars built after the savings exercise, did not have servotronic steering as standard. Having iDrive means you also have sat nav. If the iDrive controller has seven buttons around it, then you have the latest one - this would be a bonus. Servicing costs and intervals should be similar for both cars but, at 66k miles, the 320d may not yet have had the 3rd service - which is expensive. If it hasn't had it, it will need it soon. The 325d probably hasn't reached it's 2nd service yet. Unless the 325d is thousands of pounds dearer, the 325d is the way to go. Also, at 66k miles rather than 31k miles, the 320d will cost more for an insured warranty and I wouldn't have a turbo diesel after 60k miles without one. |

I've had a 320d m sport e92 ... and replaced it with an LCI e92 330d (which is effectively the same engine as the 325d.
The 6 cylinder engine definitely feels heavier than the 4 cylinder. Fuel consumption for my half in / half out of town journeys has been about 4-5 mpg worse with the bigger engine but nothing much on a run. If anything on a run they are equal. Noise - the 4 cylinder is obviously not as nice sounding as the 6 cylinder but IMO is a pretty good noise for a diesel and nothing like diesels of old. I could happily have a 320d Nd not worry one bit about the noise. What would I do ... Well, I would go for the 325d as it has less miles and is a really good package as an engine/car ... But neither cars are likely to disappoint |

I must say I was gunning for a 320, then test drove a 325i because the spec was right & gameover. The smoothness & sound of engine literally took my money from me

Bit of a update , after all the snow we had here in Northern Ireland I managed to arrange a test drive in the 325 yesterday and have to say once u drive the 325 it's a league above the 320 so after a good test drive and look round the 325 I left a deposit and will have her home this weekend slightly excited lol

i doubt you will ever regret going for the bigger engine, compromising on a car when you are an enthusiast is a BIG mistake.
congratulations on the purchase !. |
