328i Performance Intake Installed
Just had the performance intake installed, quite easy to do it yourself.
Here are a few thoughts Performance: Definitely can feel the small difference through out the whole RPM range, especially mid range. However increase at high RPM are not as much, partly maybe due to my stock exhaust. the Performance Intake airbox has a large primary intake opening and a smaller secondary opening. comparing Primary opening to a stock one is about maybe 30% larger. only one opening on the stock airbox. I think factory must put many hours of research on this intake, it might not suck as much air compare to a open system at High RPM. But it really focusing on provide good velocity of flow through out the whole RPM range. Sound: Definitely change the "tone" of the engine sound. Instead of high pitch engine wine, now it sounded little deeper. As far as volume wise, i guess maybe just a tiny bit louder. Price: at around $800 a pop for new one, DEFINITELY on the high side. but hey u do get to show off that factory marked carbon fiber intake piece when u open your hood. also it is dealer friendly. Final thought - for the Automatic tranny owner this will be a great mod. Since your tranny has a mind of its own, you dont really wanna loose any low end torque compare to an open system. also a good mod for stick tranny owner, but if you always drive very sporty and keeping the engine rpm very high, you might want to get the open system with bigger intake filter for max top end power. Got myself a used one for $500 shipped; slammed a new filter and voila.
I love the sound the PI and PE produce together. Nicest sound available out there for the 325/328/330. I first loved the sound of the aFe, but after a couple months, it sounded more like a vaccuum then an actual intake.

Agreed on the PE and PI coupled together. Sounds amazing. Been running it for a little over a year now and love the sound more and more. It actually gets better with time. The intake is expensive, yes, but its a BMW part so what do you expect? The fit and finish is fantastic and it looks very sleek when you open up the hood. If you're looking for massive performance gains, no. If you want an OEM performance part that gives a nice growl throughout the whole RPM range and looks amazing under the hood, yes.

Reading your review made me feel really good! just purchased mine today at morristown bmw for $615 shipped, couple of emails back and forth with Mike and bam the deal was on, I guess it was a steal for the price of BNIB! having a 328 don't give us that much of an option of a gain, so I chose the route of elegance over performance!

Saw the auction at ebay for $665 shipped, called the dealer, it's the last one on hand tried to talk him out to get additional discount and I guess it worked.
