E92 idling issues

Lately i've noticed that when idling at a red light my 335 has a noticeable vibration and it feels like it the engine might stall, even though there isn't a noticeable drop in RPMs. This is particularly noticeable after coming off the highway.

I'm still under warranty, just haven't had a chance to head down to BMW Toronto.

Any thoughts? Anyone else experience anything like this?

It's a 2011, xdrive.

It can be numerous things I have the same issue in my 07 328xi just found out I have to do valve cover gasket and eccentric shaft sensor because the valve cover bolts are leaking oil into my sensor causing it to throw mixed signals to my valvetronic timing which causes it to run richer. Make sure you check your ignition coils many of these small issues don't throw a code. Your car could also use a software update as stupid as that sounds

Interesting thread. Could possibly be motor mounts? What kind of km do you have on the car?

You can start by pouring a bottle of Techron Fuel Injector cleaner. If issue remains replace you spark plugs if not changed yet. On 335 these are due every 50k.

Mileage dependent,

but could be as already mentioned:
- spark plugs
- coils
- injectors
- among others

The car is at roughly 95k, and the spark plugs have not been replaced. I asked the SA at ~50k if the spark plugs needed to be replaced and the response was basically they will when the CBS says they need to be replaced. Of course the last time it was in (for the VANOS in late august), nothing came up.

The idles at between 600 and 850 RPM.

Isn't that idle slightly too high?

Mine is a touch over 500, steady as surgeons hand.

I'll double check tomorrow when I head into work. I could be mistaken.

I thought plugs are every 70k km. At least it is on my 2007 N54.

My idling issues went away after the walnut blast of the intake valves.

I'd have the valves cleaned and do the plugs all in the same day.
Then see whats up. if it still continues.
100,000 km have you ever had the valves cleaned?
and four years on the same plugs wow, change em
I do mine every spring

Been busy so I haven't been back here in a while. Turned out to be spark plugs. She runs beautifully now.

Are the spark plugs covered under the 4yr warranty?

I have the same thing happen on mine sometimes. I replaced plugs 20k ago. Might do coils now as I believe they're original at 100k miles.

Yup, covered by the 4 year 80k service. Unfortunately I'm at 100k, so it was covered by my wallet warranty.

I might do the same. Changed oil, flushed fluids, ran a bottle of fuel injector cleaner and changed spark plugs. Still occasionally get a rough idle so coils are next.

Wondering if a code has to be thrown for them to change it... My warranty is up in June....

Anyone know?

most likely. I was in there maybe a year ago (just before I hit 80k) and I asked about the spark plugs and the SA said that unless the CBS throws the code it won't show up. It won't even provide the remaining life on them. I took it with a grain of salt but he may have been telling the truth.

Had the same issue last year. For me, it was the following:

- spark plugs (were not covered)
- coils (were covered)
- software update (was not covered)

My ride is a 2010 328i RWD sedan
