I recently put my winters on my 330d and did it all using the BMW jack which probably wasn't the best idea. I have a trolley jack but I am unsure where to place it under my e90 ( I know that probably sounds incredibly stupid to most people). Any help much appreciated. Cheers, Andy.

refer to your handbook for jacking points. One each end of the sideskirts

I run mine up om 2x 8x4 blocks and jack it from the central jacking point on the front sub frame and the rear from the diff.

Have you tested to see whether your trolley jack will actually fit under your car,as a lot won't.
If it does,be careful that you don't crush the (4) plastic jacking points with the jacking cup.
To get around this,as mentioned by OB,the cheapest option would be to cut some pieces of wood to fit inside the jacking points or to buy a custom made adaptor(eBay,approx £18).
I've used both as a garage crushed my jack points.

i use a trolley jack with an alloy block bought from usa (ebay) that fits into the car jacking point

Try a cheap hockey puck from eBay and cut it to size.

Had the same problem, I have a 4 post ramp in my unit, the back end jacked up but couldnt jack the front up on the ramp cause of the plastic under carriage so had to use blocks of wood on a trolley jack to lift the front end up, not ideal !

I've got the VAT free offer email from Machine Mart and thinking about a low entry trolley jack, most of mine are too high & the only one that fits is on it's last legs. I quiet fancy the Aluminium one but it doesn't seem that much lighter than an equivalent steel version, just more fragile, does anyone have one?

have one and is ideal for low cars and is nice and light to move around. only problem is all the bolts holding it together keep coming loose.

Cheers, guys I already know about the plastic jacking points, they're what I used with the BMW jack to put my winters on. Just wondered if there were better places under the vehicle for a trolley jack.

As long as your trolley jack has a flat rubber topped lift pad (most have) you'll be fine.

The underbody plastic lift points are quite able to lift the car as long as they are central on your jack pad.

Remember BMW dealers use exactly the same flat-pad 2 post lifts as everyone else, they don't have 'special' lift pads and they don't crush the lift points.

You must have a long reach jack.?

I've got a 2.5tonne low trolley jack, but if I push it far enough under the car to get to the diff, the jacking handle is wedged under the bumper so I can't jack it up!

Have E91. If you jack up at the rear plastic block, both wheels come off the ground easily, so no need to jack up twice if working on both wheels on same side.
