Shocks/Struts for use with stock sports springs

Hi guys,

I have a 2007 BMW 335 E92 with 135K miles on original shocks/struts! ?

My car has the stock sports package and I would like to keep the springs, so basically I need to know what you guys recommend for struts and shocks.

I have a budget around $400-$500 but of course, less would be even better.

Thanks in advance!

Is this kit a good option for stock sports springs? I will be using Michelin PSS tires.

Good Choice! However, I believe it is recommended you do both springs and shocks at the same time.

Why are the springs recommended?

No need to replace the springs. I replaced all the mounts, pads, gaskets and got koni oranges all for $500. They are pretty much the same as sport springs but with better dampering. If i did it again I would have gotten the yellows though.

So I should just order the Koni Yellows and seeing that my car has over 135K miles, also go ahead and order a set of cups and all that goes on top of the strut?

That way there are no surprises when the old struts are taken off and notice all that needs to be replaced too.

What about the Koni FSD? Are they better than the Yellows?

Of the 3 Koni shock options, STR.T (a.k.a. orange) are fixed damping and a little bit stiffer than stock but not much. FSD adjust themselves in response to bumps and turns. Sport (a.k.a. yellow) are firmer and let you set a specific firmness manually. Which you choose depend on what you're trying to accomplish.

If you want to refresh all the other little ancillary parts (but not springs), you will need the following:

Front upper shock mounts (a.k.a. "guide support")
Front upper spring pads
Front lower spring pads
Front dust boots
Front bump stops
Rear bump stops
Rear upper shock mounts
Rear lower shock mounts
Rear upper spring pads
Rear lower spring pads

If you want a mild upgrade over the stock rear shock mounts, you can go with Monroe rear shock mounts, which are a firmer rubber. They are part #s 907984 for upper and 907985 for lower.

Can I hire you as my suspension consultant?

NO! FSD's suck! I ran them with oem sport springs for over a year. They are inconsistent and blow through the stroke with little damping at certain bumps. Oem shocks are better. Check oembimmerparts.com for strut/shock replacements. I think they're bilstein b4. Get new strut top mounts, spring pads and rear upper and lower shock mounts too.

Adding If anyone has experience with bilstein b6 or b8 with oem sport springs please share.

I have the koni yellows with oem sport springs on my e92. Couldn't be happier with the ride. Just refresh your hardware with the parts mentioned

Yeah I had that set up too and it was a good street suspension. Probably will go back to that. I was inquiring about bilstein sport and HD with oem sport springs and mentioned the mounting hardware for the op.

I have bils hd's with oem sport springs on my 328 and find the combo pretty damn good!
I find suspension kinda like whack-a-mole... as you upgrade something it only allows another weakness to rear it's head!!! Lol.

Is this a good buy? I am currently on stock sports package springs and shocks. 2007 E92...

Wondering if these are a good set at that price...

I also have Bilstein HD (B6) on my sport package 328i, stock sport springs.
Stiff, firm. GREAT control. Would do it again.
Takes about 1500-2000 miles to break in and smooth out.

This suspension is happiest the faster you go. It just seems to work better.
Bad quality roads around 25-55 mph and it's a little stiff, but definitely composed, an improvement over stock, for sure.

I live in NYC, and our roads are third-world-abysmal. The e90 is NOT a good NYC car to begin with...

These are a good choice, they are basically the KW V1 coilover but slightly different dampening and they have galvanized bodies instead of stainless. If you aren't in the salt belt, I would get them. that way you can adjust your ride height. but at your mileage, I agree that you need to replace the mounts and the other bits and pieces.

I put Bilstein sports on the front and Bilstein B6's on the back. At 82K miles the original shocks and struts were completely gone. At 135K your's are doing nothing.

Could not agree more. My B6s have about 3.5K now and I just bumped my tire pressure to 36 from 34 PSI. When I first installed the struts, 36 felt too stiff for a DD on suburban, crap roads in Illinois. Now, broken in, 36 PSI with B6 and stock springs (all else newly refreshed) feels good as a DD.

This is NOT a track car and I'd have a much different set-up if it was. Moreover, i'd get help dialing in the suspension for the track I ran most if it were

Hi guys,

I ended up buying Koni Yellows and also all hardware components for a complete suspension refresh! All hardware components have been delievered and the Koni Yellows will arrive tomorrow. ??

Looking forward for this weekend and getting them all installed! Will I need to get a full 4 wheel alignment afterwards?

Thanks for all the help, folks!

PS. For some reason, I have a feeling I will end up purchasing H&R Sport Springs soon... lol

Yes, get an alignment. They're cheap. You probably need one even without all the changes.
