Ordered JB3 2.0... Questions!
Ordered the JB3 2.0 PnP!
1. I've never been into the ECU area, any tips/suggestions for the first time? Pictures/DIYs I should be looking at? I've already got the youtube video bookmarked, lol!! 2. Should I run map3 or map5? Also ordered the BMS dropin. Only put 93oct in my car, we have 4 seasons here... 20's in the winter and 90's in the summer!! I went with 75% on my JB+ and never had any issues and plan on keeping my car for many years. Suggestions? |

As for the second question, I can't answer that as I don't have JB. Have fun with the install |

Be gentle with all the plastic parts in the engine bay. I have probably snapped at least 1 of everything I have put my hands on.

i just installed my jb3 today in about 45 min. took so long because i'm not too familiar with the e92 just yet, and wanted to be extra careful and take mental notes on how all the pieces come together/go apart. anyway, installation is very straightforward, i had the laptop out next to the car with the youtube video (along with the printed pdf instructions). the only mistake i made was putting one of the sliders in backwards (from the big ecu connector), and it obviously wouldn't connect. Once i realized that, the rest was VERY easy.
TIP: when everything is just about all buttoned up, and you're ready to connect the 4 OEM ecu connections to the jb3, make sure the arrows on the connectors are all pointing the same way (they were on opposite sides for me). just a spin around the block on map 3 put a smile on my face |

Put my JB3 on two days ago in the dark with a headlamp, used the same technique with the laptop next to the car and the pdf instructions. Also was emailing terry with pics as i was installing

I agree, it wasn't too hard putting in the JB3 . Take some extra time to get familiar with each step.
I put two of the cables in backwards, bcar wouldn't start, so I went back and saw my mistake. It's not hard, the video and .PDF made things real easy. Start on Map 3, let the car get used to it. I've been on 3 for almost a week, I plan on going to 5 today. I've got a BMS DCI as well, with 93 octane, alas no BT tool yet though.

I'd also recommend getting a BT tool.

Watch the video first, then use printed instructions and refer back to the video. The only issue I had was instead of unlocking the brackets and removing the hose I ended up removing the brackets. Just take it slow and it's a real easy job.

Took me like 2 hours to install the pin-out version.
I went really slow as I was down with a cold/fever, my personal ECU not working at 100%. Anyhow, I double checked every cable like 4 times and went real easy on the plastics. Guessing it would take about an hour, now that I know how to go about this, still going slow and quadruple checking everything. |

i did it two days ago as well. It took me like 2.5 hrs- but i am an idiot. I got hung up trying to get the the large slider to release. Listen to every word on the video. Also on another forum, terry has posted pics of the connections so you can be sure you are attaching everything properly. Otherwise- very simple.

The good news is I'm an IT guy, if I can make it to the ecu compartment, I'm sure I can find my way around! Might be a little tricky hooking up the data cable through the firewall though...lol

to the OP, do you know any E90 folks around your area? it is always good to meet up with other JB3 member so they can show you how to to pop the cherry the first time. since they have more experiences, they can show you some tips of the install and guide you through.

But I've installed an AFE intake before and an JB+ on my car. So, I'm not completely lost around the engine bay! |

Also if anyone has trouble reconnecting the larger side ecu connectors, unclip the whole ecu(which looks like a hard drive) from the ecu box. Pull it up a little and the large ecu connectors become very easy to reconnect.
Also don't forget to make sure the car has been off for awhile. At least 10 minutes. Since your going into the ecu, you wanna make sure the car has fully shut itself off.

Yes, I need to get a BT tool before I have to go to the dealer again.
