Bug off please
Found this little bugger in my speedo (by the fuel meter behind the glass) last weekend. I have no idea how that thing got in there!!
So took it to a service centre and they made a call to the warranty department and apparently something like this is not covered under warranty so I would have to pay ridiculous labour fees to get the little git out What are your thoughts people? |

Hmm.
That would bug the hell out of me (sorry shouldn't laugh at own bad jokes) I can see the dealer would say that, but I think you should argue and 'bug' them back (sorry again )

maybe some high air pressure through the mileometer reset button might dis lodge the bug and move it somewhere out of view in the instrument cluster. Then again it could move it to somewhere even more annoying!

The instrument cluster is only available as one complete assembly including the dust screen, so the screen might not even come off.
Re warranty, they should fix it. It's the same as some people on here who had 'leaves' getting stuck in drain and aircon vents etc, BMW tried to say 'not covered'. They sell you a product for use in a the outdoors, where, you guessed it, there are insects and leaves about. If something is a sealed unit it should be suitably designed to stop this happening IMO. Poor design I say - should be under warranty. |

I agree, especially on a £50k car. Go back in and say you're not happy. Kick up a stink.

thanks for the comments guys, like i said the service department spoke to the warranty team and they simply said it wasn't covered, thus I couldn't really argue my case further...
they used an example of if a rodent chews through the wires etc it wouldn't be their responsibility and would therefore not be covered under the warranty. So I did say to them that these cars should be designed to prevent these problems! they simply wouldn't budge no matter how much i contested. I absolutely have no idea how it got in as on close inspection it really is sealed shut (front and back) so I wouldn't even know how to release a spider in there to eat it haha As doughboy says these cars are exposed to all these things so they should have designed it to stop these things happening. I am thinking of trying to go to a different service centre and see what other dealers say.... |

I'd speak to trading standards - might get them on the unfit for intended use clause. A rodent chewing through unprotected wires is a little different from a sizeable insect getting inside a sealed unit!

Check the perspex very carefully, there may be a gap somewhere which will give you an idea as to how it got in, unless it came in from the engine bay somehow, then you are BUGgered... Sorry...

i would demand that they get it out. It really is a fly in the ointment.
Ask anneka on here or summat. im sure they would sort it out flea of charge. Failing that ask when the car is due for its first insection. |

That would bug the sh*t out of me. Hope you get it fixed.
BMW are being petty if they won't fix it under warranty. Did you get a price from them to fix and are they suggesting and brand new speedo? |
