Does this mean there are no further gains to be had for me? I had a quick look at the engine bay last night but didn't have enough light to see if my engine already has the DISA Actuator Motor/Adjustor units - I'll take a decent pic and post it up. |

Yes you have DISA actuators. It’s the thing next to the power steering reservoir.

yeah, it's the little box attached to the side of the manifold, with the ribbed cable going to it.
sorry, there is no manifold upgrade for you (you already have it). |

Thanks budvlad and mikey, that's what I thought.
Maybe I'll have to look into a stroker kit or something. Maybe its possible to use the 3L engine's block/head/pistons to grow my 2.5 into a 3.0 lol |

Has anyone tried this mod by using a used 330 ecu? They apparently can be had for 150-250 bucks. Are they coded to the VIN or something? What's to stop someone from just dropping one in?

It's the same ECU as the 325 and they are vin coded.

in the middle of the manifold swap right now. hardest part for me was disconnecting the crankcase breather hoses and wires that go to the oil separator. it's about impossible to do without breaking one of the hoses, which I did. Hopefully the dealer has one.
When looking up part numbers, it appears that the 328 has a simpler crank case breather system than the 325/330 does. |

Which partially explains why the 325 and 330 were replaced with the 328. I'm still having a hard time with BMW's decision to ditch the 3 stage manifold on the 328 though. One could argue it was probably a way for them to reduce overall build cost, but when you're shelling out the money they ask for these cars new, wgaf?

I always thought it was more about the number of 335 sales. If the power difference was too close some people might not be willing to shell out the extra cash for the 335. The X3, X5, and Z4 all have the 3-stage manifold.

the 5 series also has the 3 stage manifold. I have both a 530 and a 330 intake manifold, and the 530i one is very slightly different. It has only one port on the lower plenum for the crankcase breather, while the 330i has two (but the two connect into one pipe). Otherwise, they are exactly the same though.
And in the US, the 328 is an evolution of the 325, which did not have the 3 stage manifold, so there was no reason to add it when they could improve the power without it. |

was that because it was based off a re-flash off a stock 325i or 330i?

Allmotorh22, I think it knocked because the tuner just went too aggressive on timing and mixture. The car would adapt and reduce timing which is why I lost so much torque. In essence all tunes are based off of stock and are tweaked from there.
Mike-y, not sure but the line is 13 even. Fuel air is almost the same as a stock 330. These engines dont respond as well to fuel/air changes than older engine because they have better combustion chamber designs, or so I've heard. I'm guessing because this car is on a rolling dyno and not actually driving. Dinan's dyno has climate and humidity controlled air and massive cooling fans with their dynapack dyno which bolts to the wheels.

-is this a reflash? and -if so, do you know if it was modeled after a 325i or 330i? -Or did OE actually dyno tune the car in front of you with the new 3 stage manifold on?
