please stomp on my face with a dyno sheet. honestly, there are more e9x owners on forum that show loss over gain or staying same. general rule of thumb is... mass pool of generated/gathered data is proven to be right over the few off the chart variables.

and yes the sound...

denial.

I really don't care about a dyno sheet or the fact you think I'm in some sort of denial. I bought it for sound, it sounds great and knew what I was paying for it. end of story. Why are you being a little dick?

I don't and never will think my 330 is a racecar. All I was saying was that in normal day to day driving I have not noticed any of the supposed power loss or surging that every says happens.

if your LITTLE DICK could ever read... this thread was and im sure it is still about surging issue and possible initial lead to fixing infamous power loss that has been going around the forum by the owners of the intake.

perhaps it is also for those who may be a future customer of the intake could take into consideration that the heat soak and power loss and surging is a possible fix and purchase on a good note.

no one said anything about anyone being racecar... and if its the sound you bought it for thats great, but you do know intake isnt best for sound results you know.

be a little mature about posting sometimes, im sure you dont call everyone who disagrees with you dicks... do you? you may be an immature teen but imma take it that you're a mature individual here and everyones post gets flamed now and then by a disagreeing individual(s)... even mine. and thats why its called a forum.

Forgive my ignorance but apart from price how does this differ to AFEs PRO-5R intake system?

that set up is for the 335i the turbo charged engines i think. i believe the 335i guys dont really have the complaints like us the 328i guys do since their FI engine set up is totally different by law of physics than us NA are bound into.

Pro 5 R is the oiled filter, the normal one is called Pro Dry S filter.

Dry vs oiled. Up to buyer for preference.

AFE INTAKE

AFE intakes suck in general. I bought mine and used it for a little just because it sounds great, but it just takes the responsiveness of the car and it feels like it just absorbs wayyy tooo much air. I had it off for a couple of months and car drives much better without it. On a 335i it might make a difference cause the turbos, but on our 328i, it just looses power. DONT BUY ONE, YOU WILL REGRET IT. I can sell you mine if you really want to waste money.

Oh and customer service is terrible. Hope this helps those who are looking for intakes.

Felt i needed to reply back to this thread and share my experience thus far with the FIX OP suggested. This may shred some light on those that's frustrated with the situation as well.

Ok, so first things' first...before this fix
- i like the sound upfront (it's not like civic intakes where there's a loud deep sucking noise, what i get in mine under driving is a rather interesting whistling or higher pitched sucking noise)
- i like the way it changed the sound of my PE. definitely louder. There may be a slight drone now, but i can live wit it.
- i did not like the car's performance/behaviour under 3,000rpm. it was like driving a pig. Throttle response was terrible
- i did not like shift points where the RPM will land at 2k, it'll be unsmooth

I wanted to keep the intake real bad, so i took the final step of the FIX. I've went ahead and sourced the materials and modified the system so that the MAF now sit near the middle of the tubing. The damn solution worked! granted i've only put on approx 1000kms of use on it, but here's what i noticed
- pre-fix gas consumption : 13.8l/100km, post-fix 11.8l/100km (same driving...i rip the car alot)
- much improved throttle response
- much smoother gear change
- for some reason, the intake is louder. Maybe because the MAF is properly reading the air flow and all the mechanics are working together, yelling even better demand of air velocity

If you haven't heard a N52 engine with the PE and the intake, please check one out. I heard my fellow members' car and knew i had to get the setup. Something about a well tuned NA car's sound... IMHO, i find them much better sounding than turbo cars. Thanks OP for this post! I highly recommend this FIX, but becareful with proper sealing. Make sure you have good seals with proper gasket. Any leak will cause engine code and failure(you just need to restart the car).

As per video and dyno, it'll have to wait for spring/summer.

- 09 328i e92
- 6mt
- afe stage 2 intake (oil filter)
- PE
- software Tune (markd)

THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!

Hey guys, I bought my car with the aFe intake already installed and didn't get the OEM intake. Personally I probably would never have changed the intake from the stock one, however... since the AFe was already installed and the OEM parts were long gone... I really didn't have a choice.

With that being said I'd lived with the surging for nearly 2 years and mostly got used to it, but it always bugged me in the back of my mind. After reading this thread I was determined to give it a shot.

The only thing I really did much different from the original poster is to make mine out of Delrin which is a pretty strong plastic... probably much stronger than what the aFe intake is made out of (guessing ABS). The benefit was that its easy to work with (for me) compared to aluminum. I just ordered a 6x6x.5 inch black sheet from a plastics supply company on-line.

Anyway, spacer works exactly as described and my car is <much> better behaved now, I can't thank the OP enough for posting this fix.

Could you just put another rubber gasket (perhaps order 2 or 3 of them) and stack? Would that accomplish the same thing?

I have the same issue. I'm want to figure out how to make one. Probably wont be pretty but I'll make it work. 4000-6000 rpm is almost a complete waste. At least the sound is there lol.

You sir, are a genius. Thank you. Is it possible that you can manufacture a few of them and sell them?

Has anybody else done this? I'm REALLY interested now. Which AFE intake did you use and was it a closed off box (like the stock one) ? And anybody willing to make a few of these gaskets????

It is NOT a closed box it just has a heat shield over the filter. And if someone could send me the schematics/dimensions/ type of plastic I might be able to get them manufactured.

Can you post the EXACT measurements and descriptions? That would be really helpful for those of us in Canada.

Cheers

Yeah i just did the install and it went well, i will get in touch with my manufacturer and post the exact measurements next week.

Does anyone need any of these made? I can do them for $60 plus shipping and they will be made out of aluminum. I will also include the longer bolts for installation.

I used a small amount of RTV high temp silicone to ensure a good seal. Ill let you guys know if i have any problems. Pictures posted below.
