Lookin to get a nice sound system

Hey guys what i have in my car is stock sound. not even premium pkg for the sound.

Anyways I want to get a nice sub probably 12" with an amp.
I was thinking more of JL audio but can't seem to find much for sale anywhere unless i shop online and it can get pretty pricey to package everything up.

What kind of subwoofers you got in your car or what do you guys suggest?

Go to jl's website. I got a pretty good deal on a 12" with a 500 watt amp attatched to the box about 3 or 4 months ago. I'm thinking around $400.

I have an Alpine Type-R 1242D in a Zenclosures box powered by a JL 500/1. You can find JL 500/1s used on eBay or Craigslist for about $175-$225....got mine for $220. I got my Type-R for $114 on eBay, new. The Zenclosures box was $140, $180 shipped to my door.

Total: $514 minus wiring.

BTW, if you're looking for an amp I have an Alpine MRP-M500 I'm trying to get rid of. I'm missing the side caps but it performs as it should. I got it bench tested at a local Alpine shop. I'll let it go for $100 shipped to Toronto.

the plate between your back seat and trunk is going to hinder the amount of bass that comes in, just a FYI

id buy some focal door speakers with crossovers and game over, but they are way more pricey than just a JL sub, but sound way better IMO

I say instead of getting one 12in, get two 10in JL's. Thats what I have and 2 of my W0 kick harder than a single 12 W3.

In general, if you are going to get a single 12in sub, get two 10in subs. Sound is much clear and clean than a 12.

actually my man IMO experience a 12 sounds better, 10's pick the higher frequency sounds and 15's pick up the lower frequency sounds...12's pick up a mix of both so it makes it more clear to me

True BUT...
1 12 vs 2 10's is a different story. Depends on a lot of factors, air space, displacement, excursion and power. Two 12's will always sound better than teo 10's for sure. but one 12 vs two 10's, it really depends.

You get to keep some trunk space going with one 12 though.

YES, but whatever speaker you get wont be as loud bc of the metal plate

in these cars you're wasting your money on subs IMO, id rather upgrade the interiour speakers with crossovers and a 4 channel amp, plenty of bass for me...

sidenote: im 21 and have installed a many systems in my day and used to have 4 solobaric L7 12's in my F-150(rear seat removed, and a wall built) with 2 rockford 2000 watt amps(true watts)...just wanted you to know im not an old fart hating on sysytems, i tryed 2 L7s in my e39(even removed the plate) and it rattled like a caprice classic on 28" wheels and i took them out

but not how mine hit in that truck, i cracked the inside of my windshield and broke the RV mirror off, glove box would randomly fall, BUT sounded amazing too...i wasnt into the whole by the cheap memphis 15's just for bass, i was more a sound quality guy, and the L7 has amazing sound quality, but i got spoiled in my truck so whatever i did in my bimmers wasnt enough for me, so i said the hell with systems and got a car with harman kardon and i enjoy it

not hating on your setup, L7s are amazing, but bimmers just take away a lot of what it COULD be due to the plate and the way the trunk is made etc...

If you want more bass, replace the subs under your seat. Earthquakes SWS8 or something along those lines have had great results for other members. You'll need a separate amp to power them. I believe the housing of the subs are approximately the same regardless if you have logic 7 or standard.

There is a DIY tutorial for it here.

If you have a ski pass it's not problem. My bass comes through fine.

SWS-8s will never hit like a 10", 12" or 15" will. They are an improvement to low end but keep in mind you lose some midbass quality. You're right about the enclosure size. All systems with the underseat woofers will fit the SWS-8s.

BTW, to the poster who put 2 10"s in....How much does your setup weigh? My setup, mentioned above, is quite heavy...around 60lbs I would imagine 2 10"s would be at least 10 or 15lbs heavier than my setup.
