do you guys have n54 problems?

ik that in the fourms it filled with people having problems with their 335i... but people who dont have problems usually dont post.. so pretty much it makes the n54 look bad.. also are the hpfp and waste gate problems usually on the earlier models such as 07/08? i would assume that 09/10 would be better engineered.. So whats your experiences? the only people i see that hate on n54s are the 330/328 guys.. maybe cuz they are lower then us

All forums are cluttered with vehicle problems as that is their main purpose (troubleshooting and performance). It would be boring to post, "hey my car is running good, today".

To be honest the 07/08 and 09/10 have very similar problems in regards to wastegate noise.

The HPFP problems appear to be a thing of the past. Sure they still fail but from 07-09 years there were the most recalls. Since 2010 they have died down drastically.

Hey man, I've been in my 07 335i since the end of this past may! Things I've noted; wastegate rattle on initial start up and for the first couple min until the pressure or engine warms up whatever causes it to stop. If you have the stock exhaust and don't do the golf tee mod then you'll have a little actuator rattle as well... No biggie, unplug the vacuum line as per every YouTube video! My mods and experience with them; JB4 Map 2 since day one (had an HPFP code thrown the first day of install, cleared the code, ran some logs to terry and never an issue since, Ps updated the firmware!), BMS DC intake (love hearing turbo spool!), HPF exhaust with stock DP's, and all I can say is the turbos even with there start up rattle are extremely effective and this thing pulls like a raped ape!!! I've been fortunate to not have any issues other than my brights won't stay on! That's electrical and not mechanical so not for this discussion! Hope this helps ya!!!

I must not have a "Friday Car" because (knock on wood) I really have not had any issues with my car other than an HPFP, an oil filter housing gasket and a Vanos solenoid -- I think that's a pretty decent track record for any ~5 year old car, especially one that has been modded from early in its life.

There have been a couple of little minor annoyances that I had fixed under warranty, but nothing that would have impaired the drivability or enjoyability of the car had I not had them addressed.

I do all maintenance on my car much earlier than BMW's suggested intervals, and generally try to take good care of my car, so maybe that has helped.

reliability, is something you give up when you are on the quest of power/luxury.

if people did their maintenance like they should, we wouldnt have so many thread about people having these problems.

Misfire here, dead pump there, its just normal. People who buy BMW should know that things dont come cheap when fixing things. If you take care of your car it will take care of you. other then a water pump going at a predictable mileage, a vanos solenoid replaced, my car has been running like a champ.

None so far except for my convertible rooftop leak, but it was my fault that it happened.

I got analed about a small tear on the rubber seal and asked them to replace it. After they did, the rooftop started leaking when it rained. I kept on complaining and eventually they replaced the entire roof top seals (front, middle, back, sides) under warranty. Estimated cost to repair: $2978.43. Now it looks good as new.

I probably don't have any problems because my car only has ~28k miles... Not bad for a 5 year old car hehe

I just recently solved my issues ranging from boost leak, misfire, lpfp, and tranny gasket. Honestly now that the car is running the way it should be, I don't even care because its worth it. lol

Apart from the fact that my car was one of the few that did not get the oil cooler from the factory no issues.

No HPFP issues, but replaced under warranty
A couple of early teething issues, both back taillamp holders/bulb carriers changed *they use to show bulb out and was not"

Occasional brake squeak when driving (low speeds not on braking)
One vacuum hose needed changed/repaired (covered by extended warranty)
The error was reduced power (happened about 6 month after warranty ran out)
The arm that hands you the belt on driver side would occasionally stick out, replaced with the better/improved part no under warranty (extended)

Also the small oil leak around the dura something, seal, also covered (about 7-800 if not under warranty)

Here is a link to a thread I started just before I got my car about a year ago. It shows there are quite a few people with little to no problems with their n54s. Btw, I have had to replace 1 coil after my tune in the past year. Been good to me so far!!!!

Good so far. 52k miles, 8k of which are mine. Previous owner provided all service records and nothing out of the ordinary there either...

Oh yeah, my turbos were replaced at 46k, literally the week the bumper to bumper warranty expired. That was before the warranty was extended.

Love this car.

Oddly i have minor wastegate rattle now only on the jb4 iso cobb combo, but not stock or cobb only.

Small price to pay for a car that doesn't flatline timing!

cyl 5 misfire with an auto at high rpm, not the only one , and yet no one has an answer besides coil/plug/injectors/carbon cleaning

its a love hate relationship, i bought a tsx to daily and now selling the tsx because no car has the same attributes (or even close imo)

I replaced an HPFP, oil housing gasket leak, bad vanos solenoid (all under warranty).

Small potatoes to getting to drive this beast everyday.

After a good pair of coilovers, a tune, dci, and wheel spacers, my car is a bat out of hell (not to mention sexy) and I love it just as much as day 1.

Hpfp, one coil, a lambda o2 and the passenger side window guide. This in 40xxx miles, about 12k tuned. All covered under warranty. The n54 is a tremendous engine, just awesome. The car goes in for scheduled maintenance tomorrow but its running great and was in for the o2 at 36xxx miles so i think all is well.

first thing that came to to my mind

i had problem with a wastegate not closing properly that led to my turbines being replaced.
then i had the same symptoms (underboost codes) but it a broken nipple on one of the vacuum solenoids. (the part that the vacuum hose plugs into) new solenoid and done.
other than that, my car has been pretty good, maybe some rough cold idles, but that's it.
