Their latest and greatest claim is a full electric 4dr under $35k.

I loled.

LOL yeah everyone gives Government Motors shit for not being able to stand on their own two feet. Yet Tesla gets lauded and fails to deliver (or if they do, it comes in late and over budget) time and time again.

Of course they'll be able to do a 4dr full electric with decent range under $35k because it'll be 2050 by the time it gets here and by then that'll be the norm.

Theres nothing wrong with Tesla, or them taking the governments money to develop electric technologies. They are doing good, despite not delivering as promised when promised, they are ahead of the curve IMHO.

Who ever said they are about to blow up.... well.... facepalm.

There's nothing wrong with what the end result at Tesla. I'm just tired of these unrealistically lofty claims. It's OK to set lofty goals, but every time I hear anything about what Tesla's new project or goal is, I literally facepalm. It's ok to "aim high" and try to be at the bleeding edge of tech, but it's starting to become the boy who cried wolf.

i'm sorry i didn't elaborate.

more than a fad? its only considered a fad if you don't see the inevitable transition from a fossil fuel based economy to one that is powered by alternative sources of energy. in reality, most people don't understand the pro's behind electric vehicles, and yes there are cons like the price of electric energy (mostly supplied by coal power plants), charge time... so on and so forth.

companies like Toyota and MB are investing in its technology, they have a pretty solid business model, and green is the future. their roadster was a hand made car and they are soon ending that model. later it's going to be that new sedan, and i believe 2013 or 2014 they're going to be building a sedan to compete with the bmw 3series.

its a lifestyle you aren't ready for yet--i understand that.

oh and to add to the loses, well that's what happens when you start off with a car that you can't mass produce and you borrow tech from lotus...but they're heading in the right direction. their plan was to create a hype, and follow that hype with affordable cars down the road.

Re-read what I wrote. In no way do I think the tech is a fad. Reading comprehension FTW.

I have no doubt alternative energy is the future, and I'm sure electric cars are the next mainstream method of propulsion. Tesla is a neat company. I never said anything against it. I just think the big dogs need to get in the fight full force, and I'd rather back them in the development than Tesla.

But that's just my $.02

The energy still comes from coal and natural gas fired plants.. They are producing electric cars without the infrastructure to support it. Chicken before the egg.

Yeah I don't see how we're going to all-of-a-sudden go ahead and transition to electric as mainstream without massive backing and a good amount of time to get the infrastructure up to par.

Electric cars as a novelty is one thing; for it to become somewhat of a norm is another thing completely.

It's really funny, the idiot government wants to subsidize the purchase of the electric cars (which are really for the 'rich' when you look at the price tag) so that people (that can afford a $32k+ car) are incentivized to buy them and use them on a power grid that is not designed to support a large amount of electric cars.

So they want to tax us further to get people to buy more electric cars before they tax us further to expedite the building of infrastructure to handle the electric cars
