Cleaned the rusty hubs today

I hated looking through my nice shiny wheels at rusty hubs so today on the hottest day of the year I decided to do something about it

I wire brushed the hubs to remove the worst and then a gentle rub with wet and dry. Once done a nice coat of silver smooth Hammerite and jobs a goodun

Matches the wheels nicely and tidies it up a bit.

I did mine at the end of last year, and the winter and 4000 miles later and they still look good. It a job worth doing!

Add three coats of lacquer to finish it off:

Remove a wheel at a time, once off, chock wheels and leave in neutral and you can spin the hub to make it easier to do.

My wheel nuts are 17mm so you will need a socket and torque wrench.

A stuff wire brush and any grade wet and dry will do the job.

A decent paint brush but not to big and away you go.

I only painted the hubs not the callipers in case you were thinking of doing those. They are a bit more involved.

Or you can use a wire brush attachment to a drill and do the whole job much quicker

Looks so much better! Meaning to do mine along with the callipers but either need to send the wife and kids out shopping for the day or take a day off work in order to get a few hours to myself! I may also wait for some cooler weather!

Mine neither, I was just thinking its strange how this effects some cars and not others... neither of my E9x's have had much of a problem with this but a lot of cars I see have it really badly... maybe different disc manufacturers get used during assembly and its luck of the drawer what type you get?

Did NSF hub only today. 3 coats and also sprayed the bolts as they weren't in the best condition. Came out nice.
