Modify OEM exhaust to sound like PE exhaust

Had this done yesterday. Total cost was a bit more than I was expecting but thats because the original shop that worked on my car butchered my resonator delete by doing terrible welds/wrong pipes. The new shop had to fix that and had to work a bit to make the magnaflow xpipe fit.

So what I had done was remove almost all the packing (75%-90%) and wrap the perforated pipes with heatwrap and I installed 3.8 inch cyba tips and the magnaflow xpipe. It sounds very refined, deep, pops but there is drone. On the highway at 2k rpm I get a decent amount of drone, I guess this s because I removed all the packing. Its not bad with the music on but its there. Its not very loud at cold startup.

I will have videos and pictures up this weekend. I was making a video today but got interrupted by another 335i driver who wanted to know what exhaust I have. :rofl:

I'm looking to get $500 for the muffler. They are like the PE but slightly more tame. I went that route because if you've ever heard a PE with catless downpipes, it rasps like crazy. Up above 6k RPM it sounds like shit IMO.

It sounds like it has catless DP in the video right? Is it louder than a factory muffler base? I have a sedan but I removed the secondary cats so I essentially have the coupe exhaust now.

Are they still connected together so that I only need 2 clamps?

Yea that car has catless DP but that's the is muffler not PE. I was going to install it on a secondary cat delete setup too which I think would sound amazing but I decided not to. Yes it is a lot louder than the factory muffler. If you've heard a stock 335is in person, there is a huge different form our stock exhaust There's more info and pics in this thread:

. No I am not in rockland, I am in westchester county and the shop is in mahopac, ny. They did great work, very cool guys there. A M3 got its muffler deleted while I was there, they are used to work on BMWs.

What is the name of the shop in mahopac and what did they do about the canister that sits in the driver side muffler? I assume the canister in the driver side muffler is like a mini resonator that is enclosed and if you cut the shell off is probably a perforated pipe with more packing.

I want to go up there and get this done.

That car actually has stock downpipes and an X-pipe instead of the factory E90 resonator. The car belongs to a friend of mine. And for what it's worth, the E92 Coupes DO have the secondary cats, too. They just have an X-pipe instead of the middle muffler/resonator.

The 335is mufflers are a good amount louder than stock. My car has downpipes (but the rest of the exhaust is stock E90), and it is a noticeable increase in sound. Not as loud as PE, but more refined sounding. No drone, either.

since alot of guys get muffler deletes, I am pretty sure welding these on would sound pretty good. The packing and perforated design on the inside of these N1 canisters are enough to tame rasp, and unwanted drone.

Good news for everybody! After pulling apart a stock muffler modifying, installing, re modify , and reinstalling I have pretty much designed a set up that is exactly the same as the performance exhaust from BMW.

It gurgles, it pops, it sounds amazing! It literally has zero drone on the highway. Literally none! It sounds completely stock with the flap closed when firing the car up when it's cold.

Cruising on the highway it sounds like stock, and then when you get on it it's loud like the performance exhaust is the best of both worlds and I have got this in the bag now. Pictures to come and details soon.
