I have an '07 that I drove off the lot brand new. Do some research before you buy. Like most first year models, these cars do have its fair share of issues. However, once you get them fixed they are pretty much on par with the later years. My dme just crapped out on me last month. Luckily, it was covered under the emission warranty. I'm figuring battery cable going to fuse box will be the next issue.

I have an 07... no problems here so far.

I think its a roll of a dice on this one. But also keep in mind that the horror stories you'll hear will always be louder than the guys with no complaints (most of whom don't frequent forums like these)

335i is so sweet to drive.... its liquid honey smooth engine and ZF 6spd auto... taut suspention. still one of the best in my opinion, and i have a 680HP vette! comfortable as honda, fast as a sports car, turns like one as well.

take your time and inspect the car in all areas if you want it... engine noise, history of the car, brakes remaining, carfax, the whole nine. inspect out side and inside cosmetics. any scratches or moulding issues? see if paints on the steering wheel is peeling or not. go through a-z.

if your the kind of person who runs to the dealer to get their car fixed, it's the kind of car that can cost a fortune to maintain. If you know a good indy and order some parts online or at a scrap yard, and get lucky and score yourself a semi reliable car, you should be ok. Since its a sick car, you might be willing to put up with repairs more then you normally would.

again if you don't drive it off the lot and the turbos blow lol... Cars amazing with mods. Cobb is INSANE!

Its all about percentages too. You could go to carmax and get the one dud lexus, or honda, and while the odds are more likely you'll have issues with a non Japanese car, I felt this car was worth the risk, and right now its paid off.

All the people who have first year models of any car, especially 07 335's, just because you didn't have any problems doesn't mean the "design"/"defects" are there. Case in point, the first bad batches of:

1. HPFP
2. Injectors
3. Subframe motor mount
4. Lack of cooling injectors
5. Host of other updates

Again, the first 2 have been corrected if you took your car in for recalls, but there are many more mechanical parts that I'm sure if you look through realoemparts.com, BMW has updated those parts for '09/'10 model years.

If you haven't had any major problems, that is good for you and you are in the upper distribution of reliability for '07/'08. No one is saying you will or won't have problems with '07/'08 early builds, but what we're saying is that you are more likely and more prone to have more problems than people with '09/'10. That's a fact.

If you don't understand, maybe this will help:

Probability of having significant repairs with 335i N54 based on model year:

2007 - 10-15%
2008 - 8-12%
2009 - 5-8%
2010 - 3-5%
2011 - 3-5%

This is just my guesstimate but you can see that you if you stay 2009 and above, you'll be less likely to have any issues than those with early builds. Again, for those of you who don't have problems with 07 builds, that means you are in the 85-90% population.

It's a BMW. It's expensive to maintain. But that's just the way it is.

I would say yes mine has had a few problems out of warranty, but to this point hasn't equaled what extending the warranty would have. Getting close though.

Keeping it in perspective though, luckily most things are fixable for a couple hundred bucks. Unlike my previous car which was a Porsche 911 that required a whole new engine for 18,000 dollars when the RMS goes on it.

Don't get the 07 I would save a little bit more and get the 09-11, that or get the 328i. Obviously you're concerned about reliability since you made this thread so that is my suggestion.
