5mm spacers did not work. Felt like rubbing on the inside strut. 10mm spacer feels fine. Going to get the local performance shop to look at any possible rubbing on the outside fender since the wheel is pushed way out, but actually looks okay.
So, this setup seems to work: 18x9 ET41 LTW's with 10mm spacer and 255 Eagle F1s (previous gen). Driving impressions: Front end feels a little heavier for slow speed turns (expected) - how could it not be with such wide tires and a 10mm spacer! What I didn't think about was the tire noise. Don't know if its the tires since they are not brand new, but the tire noise is significantly more (don't recall this when I ran 225 Goodyears up front). Guess the wide tires through the front wheels really gets its way through the cabin via the steering wheel... Turn in is crisp and immediate. Just switched over from winters to summers though. Haven't pushed the car anywhere near the limit, so don't know the dynamics at the limit during corners. Stopping is pretty intense in a good way. Have Carbon Cools. But again, don't know if it's partially due to the winter rubber changeover. More to come...

THANKS!
+1 on that. keep the updates coming on this.
Just so you know I am just getting into an 06 330XI 6MT with a staggered 162 setup so what I am *thinking* about doing is getting another set of 18x8.5 162s for the front and running square 255s all around. But I am not that savvy on the offset and the clearance issues that poses yet so learning vicariously through watching lots of threads. tangent question: Does anyone else following this thread know if there is anyone on e90post running a square 18x8.5 type 162 wheelset? please PM me if you do or know someone who does as I would like to know how well they fit up front and what if any spacers etc are required to make it work if need be. cheers and good luck with the tuning on this. interested in the next update and what you decide to do!

I run square 219's 18x8.5 with 245/40/18 on all 4 corners--ET29. Front are pretty flush and I could get away with spacers on the rears---maybe even 10mm. |

Here are the specs on my 18x8.5 162 rears: http://www.detroitwheelandtire.com/p...del=873&page=3 Do your 219s have the same 37mm offset as my rear 18x8.5 162s? I think you might have 18x8.5 ET29 so it's hard to say if my 18x8.5 ET37 rears will fit the same with 255/35 R18. I will send you a PM as I don't want to hijack WUD's thread! /Josh

because of bad weather the last time I was at the track, I had no chance to drive (and fit) my square set-up. In 2 weeks I will be up there again and my car should be standing ready there waiting for me with wheels and tires mounted. 9x18 with 265x35 R spec tires. ET in the back is 35, in the front I am not sure yet. I will let the actually value when I have my car back with the wheels mounted. Don't forget I am running 2.8 degrees negative camber (possibly even up to 3 degrees if some space is needed) Will take some pictures of course.
I am waiting my summer wheels to be delivered as well. The same set of 9x18 Forgestar F14 on which I will mount 255x35 square for daily driving. I hope the wheels arrive within the upcoming month... till then I have to keep driving wintertires... here a picture with 245x40x18 Dunlop Direzza 03G in front on 8x18 ET35. You can see the space I had left. (back was 265x35 on a 9x18 ET40) Last edited by marcel b; 04-15-2010 at 09:34 AM.. |

I forgot to update...
I fitted 265x35x18 square, have a look here: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=381698 for day to day use I will fit 255x35x18 on a similar set of wheels (and offsets). Should be perfect. |

Turn in is really crisp. Stopping power is excellent, but then again, I just got new front rotors and new Carbon Cool pads. By far, the stopping power is what surprised me the most. I'm curious to hear if Marcel b has the same feeling re: braking.
