My AP is giving me 2 codes stating my water pump is out. My battery completely died prior to the codes and I had to jump start the car. Is there any possibility a fuse was blown or something? My ECTs climb like crazy when data logging, but I had absolutely no issue prior to the car dying. I have 46k miles.

If not how expensive of a job is it to fix?

Water pump is around $550 I think. And how ever much labor you can get it done for, I'm not sure. Mine was warranty

I had my pump replaced at a local indy that works on most of SD's bmw's. They did pump/thermo combo and it was 1300$ after labor.

This is what the engine bay looked like.. Water sprayed out I guess from overheating?

that is what mine looked like when it overheated. Pretty sure your pump is dead.

Mine did that also. I just added distiller water and A little coolant and it was good to go. I get a water pump code saying it's running a low power mode (75%). Which means it'll die soon. I bought a new water pump (which i got a killer deal on) and its sitting in my closet. Im just waiting til that one decides to go.

U can try trouble shooting before changing the pump but others will tell u to change the pump.

I say if u have a good towing service wait till it completely fails and then change it. That's what I'm doing.

Edit: are u on ur originak battery? If si the change battery And then see if it goes away...

+1 my car kept saying that the coolant was low. I kept refilling with water + coolant. One day, I was driving on the highway and went into reduced power. Car was overheating and sure enough the pump had failed completely. Had to put the car on the flat bed and sent to the mechanic.

I'm planning on selling my car soon. Are my codes consistent with outright failure or is it just on it's way out?

Yeah fill it up with distiller water and BMW coolant. And then check for coolant leaks. You should probably change ur battery also

yeah, as soon as I got the low coolant warnings, I was okay for a couple of months, adding coolant and distilled water before it failed completely. Your codes are in line with the pump being on it's way out.

I'm on the original battery. This whole ordeal followed a dead battery. Could that of precipitated the water pump issues?

I read some threads where ppl had gotten a code for their pump and they changed the battery and the code was gone. We have an electrical pump and it wires directly to the battery. So if it's not getting the right amount of power it could throw a code or two. Bur if u had to jump start your car you would need a new battery anyways so why not change it and see if the code goes away. Make sure u register the new battery though with a bt tool.

Awesome. So the P2E81/P2F80 codes are not consistent with outright failure.

I'm just a little freaked because when I was live data logging with my AP the ECT's were climbing to 240+. I really don't want to have to replace my heads

thanks for the info for the water pump failure code, i am getting a "128" code and was suspect it would relate to water pump.

Try testing the pump with a bt tool. U can hear it running when u test it.

Is ur car able to turn on as if now or no?

I can turn my car on but it heats up pretty fast. I haven't checked my coolant levels yet. I am not car savvy enough to be able to discern the difference in sound between a functioning and non-fuctioning pump however...

Basically turn ignition on but not the car. Start the test with the bt tool on the water pump. And you'll hear a buzzing sound for like 7 seconds. If u don't hear a. Buzzing sound at all ur pump isn't working.

If your car is cool enough check the level of it. If its low add some distilled water to the minimum. Then tmr run to the BMW dealer ship and grab some BMW coolant. If u have another vehicle to drive take that one.

Thanks for the help man. I actually don't have a BT tool I just use my Accessport. I'll use my girlfriends car to pick up some coolant and distilled water and take it from there. I am also flashing back to stock boost levels lol
