Saved on Insurance

Hi, I switched insurances from AAMI to payasyoudrive.com.au and reduced my comprehensive insurance from a ridiculous $2500 with AAMI to around $1100 with payasyoudrive, the ok by me catch being is valid for the first 5000kms(you can buy extra cover for extra kms).
I have taken up cycling to work most days to keep fit and wasn't going do 10-20,000kms a year, so thought wasn't a great idea dishing out the extra on insurance. Any of you have similar experiences?

Wow, I had exactly the opposite experience. AAMI have quoted me $900 for my E93 LCI (new) and the site you reference quoted me $2700!!! No I am not joking. FYI I only said 10,000kms. I adjusted it to 5,000 and it still quoted $2400.

Sunshine coast premiums < Sydney premiums. Jump onto AAMI's website and do a quote for yourself with the postcode 2000 :P

I have recently discovered a new brand of insurance that looks quite promising. Its called "The buzz insurance" It's underwritten by IAG which is the same as NRMA etc. so claims should be a breeze. You get choice of repairer and can lodge claims online. I've read their PDS (market research at work) and there is nothing out of the ordinary in there.

Their prices also look really competitive and the thing i like about them is that you put in postcode, car and DOB and you have a price. You can then see how things effect the premium and things like sex etc do not Mods are no worries with them, some mods attract an additional excess so if you have a heavily modified car you have a steep excess but at least your premium is cheap.. They also only offer agreed values and the ratio at which your agreed value amount effects your premium seems extremely fair.

And no, i don't work for this insurance company... I actually work for a different insurance company with a different underwriter

whew, that's a good deal, have you been with AAMI many years?..Not sure how AMMI quoted you that lower but I guess is to do with some models within BMW they don't cover?
A friend who called for a Holden ClubSport R8 was told they don't insure that car too so I guess is to do with certain models they insure and some they don't.

whew, that's a steal, all the major ones I called exceeded 2 grand except for the pay as you drive one. Then again I guess it's got something to do with being in Sydney where the insurers think money blows about in the Opera house foyers for the picking for them to charge us this high

another little pointer on the payasyoudrive insurance when called them up about how renewals work..any unused kms get automatically rolled over to the next year..as I understand it if I used only 4000kms out of 5000kms insured for this year, 1000kms is added to the next years insurance, so in effect get 6000kms insured for next year.

I did a hypothetical for my wife with youi and the premium was $4800 per annum for an E91 320d. BMW Insurance are $1600, GIO $1450 and AAMI $1370 with similar options (glass cover, $600-ish excess).

Now I wonder if a big insurance database somewhere has her listed as a higher-risk driver.....

At $4600, it sounds like they really dont want to insure your car and by quoting such a high amount are expecting you to walk away. Why don't they just say "sorry we don't insure any cars with turbos".

Some insurance companies are more conservative than others.

True, I had a ridiculous quote of above $4000 from BMW insurance so guess they didn't want to insure me back then, went to AAMI for about $2000 (they upped it to $2500 after I made a claim on a single glass breakin n steal incident and kept it at that the follwing year too) then to payasyoudrive for a little over 1100...but I was also newer to Australia back then so had less of Australian insurance history on the table so maybe that was a factor in BMW insurance quoting me that high.
