Cabin Air Filter stripped threads repair

Hi Guys,

Trying to fix stuff on my car that keeps on breaking. I saw a DIY here to fix the stripped threads http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=855681

But getting these from USA is so expensive. Anyone know where I could source the nut and bolts locally?

Tried bunnings for generic inserts of that size? Otherwise go to a nut and bolt specialist in your area perhaps?

Alternatively organise a GB for these from the USA!

Spent a good few hours at Bunnings and couldn't find anything.

Tried a few bolt places and they kept sending the incorrect ones.

Will check out a GB. Last time I asked it was 5x the cost to ship than the bolts. Just thought someone in Aus has done this already.

I've done it on Socket's car as they were all stripped

heaps on ebay. I don't recommend the press in ones, they can come out. I think a threaded insert with loctite will be much stronger.

I recommend using M5 thread which is the same as the machine threaded screws that hold down the cowl.

Not on bunnings website, but i previously bought from there in the furniture fittings department or just show a team member the picture. Its an M6 thread. Just have to slightly enlarge hole on the cowl and use an allen key to drive the insert in.

I wrapped some thick tape (gaffa tape) around the screw, and then screwed it in....hold reasonably well.
