any benefit to getting these? I had one on a past car and it didn't seem to do a thing, I've actually seen charts where a paper air filter outperformed a K&N a couple times on a dyno.

IMO, a replacement filter isn't worth it.

I guess it's only worth it if you can get additional airflow (volume) at WOT, and even then only if the filter is the "weak link" in the entire engine breathing pathway. I doubt that it does any better job of FILTERING than the stock filter.

The only downside I've heard of using the oiled gauze style filters is that they tend to foul the air meter...........so in the case of the N54, we don't have to worry

The K&N controversy has been going on for ages, I run them in my cars because I never have to replace them..........but then again, that's what full maintenance is for.

The K&N Filter caused to MAF sensors to go bad in my G35, the oil burned the sensor (new out of the box), never again.

I've had them on both my BMW's prior to my 335 and never had any problem with them.

We sell them in our store and COMEBACKID is correct. They just released it.

I've noticed a difference in my 2 previous cars. I'll go with these drop-in filters again after my warranty expires.

I would not use a K & N drop in, it fills everything with that crappy red oil and its just not good for your motor... Save your money.

^^^ What he said. In my STI I actually cleaned the (brand new) filter just to get a little of red oil off.

What do you think would be a better filter for your car? The ITG High Flow foam air filter or the K&N???

Probably stock. The oil on the K&N is a drawback and foam filters tend to degrade over time ending up in your engine. Foam is also generally not very good at filtering really small particles. They both loose performance over time.
