Thanks guys, its not that Im of a cautious nature.... far from it, in fact im the total opposite which is why i think insurance would be a worthwhile investment!

I am very intrested in joining you all on this but can not commit due to expected baby at around that time. Its good to know that its not a pre-book event so I can decide to come right up to the last minute, which unfortunatly is the best i can do...

Ill have a look on that site.

Thanks
Lee

Lee, it's the accomodation you have to book well in advance. Some hotels are booked up a year in advance especially over popular weekends like Easter.

I've booked up the same hotel as peppernick and the Eurotunnel for 09:50 on 13th July and 22:42 on 15th July... Should be an awesome trip!

How much did the hotel cost you? and the eurotunnel?

Are people going to take a spare set of brake pads / or a couple of tyres?

Thanks

Hotel I'm booked into with peppernick and co is £59 a night B&B, Eurotunnel is £149 return (Fri morn depart, Sun night return), drive round the Nurburgring...priceless!

Spoke to peppernick about brakes and tyres and he doesn't change. So we will all be driving on our existing setups.

Should be fun!

I am also going over on the 22nd June weekend, joining the BMWland group. Then I'll be doing the BMW Fahrer training advance driving course on at the Ring in August and then back there once again in September. Just can't get enough of it!

The Nordschleife is one thing, but the steak on stone at the legendary Pistenklause Restaurant is something else! You've got to try it!

I think a lot of people get too concerned with what preparation they need. My advice, just show up with a reliable car with European breakdown cover and enjoy yourselves! We are going there for a holiday, not to go racing. A lot of little things like engine oil and brake fluid can be bought at the petrol station down the road (where there is also a very well stocked model shop selling all kinds of detailed models of racing cars, and most importantly, the Ring stickers!) should you need some top up.

I know I started the post, but I'm not going to be able to go, either (wife...lol). She said I'm spending too much money (i.e. just got the car and a bunch of stuff for it). I guess I can't blame her. Hopefully something will come together locally. I hope you guys have a blast, and I'll be joining you next summer

I can't believe it's any more dangerous than following Beauforty around the peak district.

Ok lee lets start the case for:

This is not a race track

During public sessions, its legal status is that of a one-way public toll-road with no speed limit (except on the approach to the two exits). Vehicles must be 100% road-legal (including tyres), and normal German road traffic law applies.

Note it is a one way road.. got to be safer than a normal high way:rocks:

<thats me done anyone want to add>

However please bare in mind that they are all right to a degree:

The Case Against:

This is a dangerous road, and serious accidents are an everyday occurence.

Adenau police station in September 2002 reported Nordschleife 10 fatalities between January and September that year

fully check out Ben Lovejoys site /www.nurburgring.org.uk (who I credit for the above text)

and make an informed decision.

The Ring can be without doubt a dangerous place.

As others have said though

1. It is a one way road, governed by German road law
2. If you drive within your limits then you should be fine. It is generally people trying to beat their previous lap times or people getting carried away that end up in trouble. You can drive as you feel at the time - I bet you'll have a smile on your face at the end.
3. Being very observant in the car will help keep you out of trouble, especially as it is your duty to keep to the right hand side of the track if someone is trying to overtake you.
4. The majority of fatalites mentioned earlier are bikers
5. It's got nothing on the M25 !
6. Lastly - mention to them that they let coaches go around the Nordschliefe on public days, so how dangerous can it be?

Phil

thanks guys...

the point about coaches on the ring is a good one... although i said exactly this last night and the reply i got was...

"oh so your doing 100+ and all of a sudden theres a coach in front of you! THATS dangerous!"

I might just lie and say Ive got to go on a business course for something for a few days....

Bloody women! (and parents for that matter) ((and in-laws))
