After a lot of time had passed and what seemed to be a nearly complete project, he went silent and nothing else was posted. Most if not everyone that followed it presumed he blew up which a lot of the N54 guys were assuming would happen. The other issue that comes into play is the transmission. For whatever reason (cost probably being the most obvious) BMW gave the N52 a pretty weak Manual transmission. I think if I remember correctly the max its rated at is something like 350hp. Gavin's goal was to hit 300whp with a possible stage 2 conversion after a reliable setup was reached. Obviously that never happened but it should give you an idea of where we sit in the E90/92 crowd. 3 stage intake manifold, tune, k&n drop in, and exhaust are pretty much the only real power gainers (manifold being the most with a proper tune). Unless you spray it, there really isn't anything else out there for these engines.
I haven't done a ton of research but I do know enough to know that this definitely is not a race car. Like I said before, my main goal for tuning is just extract a little more power and hopefully improve mpg as well. If I know one thing about tuning, it's that there's usually a fair amount of room for improvement in just about any factory tune. They like to keep timing low and AFRs rich for the sake of reliability and longevity.

You say that like it's a bad thing.

I'm not driving a race car or in a race. I'd like more power, but if it comes at the cost of reliability and longevity, I might just have to rethink getting a tune.

Really, all I want is when I put the 3-stage intake into my 325i, I would like a tune that makes full use of that.

It's not necessarily, but too much fuel and too little timing actually can be a bad thing in certain situations. The thing about it is most OEMs work off the premise that the fuel you buy is bad and you're not smart enough to run 93 instead of 87. So they dummy down the tune to keep it as safe as possible. I've tuned both my Evo and my wife's Mazda CX7 and there was definitely plenty of room for improvement while still keeping things safe. My goal is to do the same with the BMW if I were to get this program. I'm not looking to run this thing to it's limits, just try to optimize performance a little more.

+1. 90% of the people that are getting impatient probably will not end up buying the tune as soon as it's released.

Be paitent guys, this is a brand new tune, you don't want a half-assed tune right? You want a tune that will squeeze out as much power as possible! And c'mon we all know how hard that is with an N5x engine!

With that said it will be out in a couple weeks I bet.

^ +1.

It should come out given the amount of time Shiv has put into it. A key indicator will be when Shiv does the final dyno tune with the new lambda tables. After that we should have a better idea.

The in-progress tune I have already includes throttle remap that alleviates a lot of the throttle delay issue. I do wonder if our CA cars have it worse due to emissions, but before the tune I could hardly heel and toe due to the delay. Now I have no problem doing so.

I am waiting to hear back from Shiv so that I can let him keep my car for a full day, hopefully before Christmas. We will see.

Hi guys,
Thanksgiving break slowed down progress again. But I'm back on the job in a few days when I get my hands back on the test car. Definitely hope to have it released by Xmas
