I take that back..

I am picking up the car this afternoon, and what I thought was going to be 300-330 is now close to $400...

O well, they found another item wrong with my car covered under CPO which sort of makes up for it, enough though I still have to pay a $50 deductable.

My signs were, my car is an 08 and had the originally battery! haha, but no, 2 or 3 times over the last 3 months i would get the "battery symbol" on my dash when I put the key in or after i turned the car off and the key was still inserted for a minute or two.

But what really showed me was, over the last 2-3 weeks, my clock has stopped working - or should I say, kept resetting itself to "--:--" time. Sometimes I would start the car and the time would be kept from last time, other times id start the car and no time AND the trip OD would be reset.

all signs pointed to a failing battery. BMW says some of the electronics will start "acting up" and shut themselves down to conserve power.

Plus with the cold weather coming up (i am in PA) had to replace it - didnt want to go leave for work one morning and have the car not start.

If i do need a new a battery, what one do i need from like advanced auto or pepboys? i rather not spend 500 at bmw.... also i heard i need to register the new battery...how do i go about doing this? sorry if this has been posted before but i really dont know a lot about this kind of stuff. i just drive my car lol. i dont know a lot of technical stuff about it.
Sounds like a battery taking a crap. How is it starting? Does it start slowly? My battery was built in 2007 so it was not original to the car but still 5 years old. It was starting slowly the colder it got outside. I researched replacement batteries and finally settled on the Bosch 94R-730B sold at Pep Boys for $160 or so. It is white like the BMW battery and exactly the same size. Its CCA is slightly higher on the new battery. I went from 640CCA to 730CCA. I have a Bavarian Tech cable and the program allowed me to register the new battery. It is about a 30 min job start to finish.

That connector is only for shipping

It puts the car into a deeper sleep mode so the battery is not drained as fast
. The IBS Cable comes from the negative terminal of the battery and is plugged into the distribution block on top of the battery. I think I can see the IBS Cable in black going under the black hold down piece that's going under it and originating at the negative terminal.

So leave it alone and un-plugged?
