SoCal: if you have 3” catless downpipes but stock exhaust on 335i click here.

I’m in the process of looking to get 3” VRSF downpipes for my 335i, however before committing to a purchase, I need to know what they sound like with stock exhaust, so like the title says, if you have a 335i (N54) with aftermarket catless downpipes, 3” a plus, VRSF a huge plus, I would like to meet up with you for a ride (you will be driving) and do a pull or two, there will be a $20 bill in it for your trouble.
PM me or post here

SFV

I know about youtube videos I saw/heard a bunch of these but I know I will get what it actually sounds like by being inside the car.

I am actually trying to keep my setup as quite as possible without any drone.

I've heard ar catless downpipes on a stock exhaust and I've gotta say... its extremely raspy and not exactly a great sound, a buddy of mine had them on his car and it was louuuudddddd. The rasp is similar to a e46 m straight piped (if you are familiar with how that sounds)

It really is. You can read up all you want about how to please a woman, you can look at all the diagrams in the world, but just like the clitoris, you won't know what the hell an apex is before you actually find it.

All catless downpipes will sound more or less the same. What you're paying for is the fitment and the quality of construction.

They are probably hitting each other and that is causing some rattling sound. Properly installed downpipes are not raspy.

Hmmm quite possibly, it reminded me of a straight piped civic on stock muffler but with a deeper race tone

This is why it is really important to buy good downpipes. Cheap downpipes can have really bad fitment issues and that is not a problem that I would ever want to deal with.

I know you want a stock exhaust catless DP ride but if you want to hear what catless BMS DP's plus the BMW PE sounds like on a E90 N54 then lmk. I'm in O.C. area.

That is true but I hear that ãr dps are a pretty penny and are constructed just as good as the price tag?

I'll try and get one tomorrow. I think my exhaust set up would be to raspy without my secondary cats though.

Created a new thread, but I'll ask here... I have downpipes on my car _ just moved here and need to get cali registration. If I have catless pipes on now and can obtain smog paperwork, can I try to register it without issue here or will I get in trouble at the DMV? Thanks everyone.

I also have MS catless downpipes (rest of my exhaust is stock) and it most definitely does NOT sound like stock lol. It is fairly loud and really screams in the higher RPM range.

I have an E92, though, so it will be louder than an E90, naturally.

In california, in order to pass smog, you'd need the entire emissions system on your car (original cats, resonators and muffler or at least CARB legal ones) I highly doubt you can pass smog legally with anything catless down here unless you know some people. Btw, california isn't very nice to the mod scene you must also be a certain decibel level of sound well even for some race tracks.

interesting, the pipes could be hitting the subframe

that’s a possibility, however if I’ll be throwing money around id rather wait for the right person to come along, I will keep your setup in mind thou.

if you can wait until 2013, they changed the law so that cars 2000 year or newer only have to pass OBDII scan, no more tail pipe sniffer, so as long as your car doesn’t shoot codes you’ll be ok.
