335D M-Sport Rear Bumper Retrofit Tidbit

Hey in case anyone was interested or cared: I am installing an M-Sport rear bumper and it suddenly dawned on me that all e90 335 rear bumpers probably have a stencil of where the UREA cover should be. So you can drill out the stencil and transfer the UREA cover and mounting plate to the new bumper!

I solely base this logic on the fact that all bumpers have stencils of where to drill for PDC and headlamp washer cover. If you look at a non D rear bumper you should probably see a big circle on the driver side.

Why is this useful? It is useful because it is realllllly hard to find a 335d M-Sport rear bumper and my friend laughed at me for buying one that came off a 335i modded for 335d.

Now...all I need is for someone to say "Yea dude, we all knew that!"

You got me thinking on this one. My rear bumper was recently replaced and the lead time for the part was well-beyond norm. The reason which BMW gave me for not having the part in stock in the US was the low number of MSport equipped diesels on the road. This could have been nonsense, but this may be a mark against your friends theory.

In looking at the parts, the part number for the diesel is 51128029687 and that for the petrol seems to be 51128041139. As the cover for the urea fill is listed separately, this would again lead me to believe that the are, in fact, different parts. That said, neither of these is a definitive answer, but both are good rebuttals to your friend's mockery.

Lol, Love it! I thought it would be interesting to post since it will definitely pick peoples brains! One of these day I will ask a petrol owner that's doing an install to take a look for me.

I bought a used one from a member here and he had a shop drill out the hole. I half expected it to not be in the correct position but it was. Originally I thought they measured where the hole should be which to me seems pretty tough but the hole is 100% accurate.

I will say though, I took a look at Realoem and I couldn't find the plate (black piece that is attached with double-sided tape) that the cover mounts to so maybe thats what seperates the two. Who knows haha

I was at my local airport the other day and I go super excited seeing an AW 335d M-Sport! "That'd be cool if it was a D....UREA cover! It is!" ahhhh fresh to death.

I doubt it's simply a drill out operation. Look closely, there are no cut
marks on the urea access hole. The part is either molded with the hole
or someone spent additional time after cutting a hole to polish and round
the hole.

Hey there, I dont have pics of the actual process. The guy I bought it from had it done in LA at Long Trans shop.

I think the answer is that it is possible when performed by the right shop, but may not be worthwhile unless you get a serious deal on the bumper.
