:( Edmunds Insideline 335i vs. g35, CTS
Did any one else see this, i'm very disappointed in edmunds because they usally pick the right one to win
http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do...hotopanel..1.* the only car i would buy in this test is the E90/E92 335i the cst is slow, the IS350 lacks feeling, the MB doesnt handle well, the G35 is cheap which shows in it's interior & Build quality, but the 335i can do what these cars cant and its a little more $,,,,,,, so in the end they go with the G35 Owell, i dont really care i just wanted to see what you guys thought |

well same as previous tests, G won because of the price. Otherwise they are right BMW is most recommended and best to drive in all aspects

Yeah I read it earlier today.
Kind of a joke that they say the BMW 335i was basically the best car there, but because the Infiniti was cheaper but still performs good, they gave it first place. The ironic thing is in the opening paragraph they mention the $11,000 price gap between the cars, but say that the $11,000 difference is pretty much justified. So they justify spending more on some of the cars like the BMW and pretty much state you get more for that money, but then give the Infiniti first place because it's cheapest and mention how the interior is not up to par to the other cars. I also found it funny they say the Infiniti's 5 speed auto is better than the BMW's 6 speed auto, but NOBODY has ever criticized the BMW auto before, but others have of the Infiniti's calling is buzzy and so forth. So the best "all around" performance car in the test that they themselves says feels the best, is the fastest and has a higher level of interior and so forth, did not win because you have to pay a bit more for that extra performance, all around performance and nicer interior in a car held as a higher level of prestige, refinement, performance and resale value, etc etc? Interesting, but in a test of SPORT sedans, that are ALL within a given price range, price should ONLY be used to break a "tie" if two cars are so close in every other way. Otherwise, give the win to the car that actually WINS based on all the other objective and subjective testing procedures and mostly on it's sport performance outcome. |

Its just a money factor that won this one.
I was this close(pointing at fingers close together) at putting a deposit on a g35. But then drove the 335 and it sold me over. There were a lot of little things that bugged me about the G that I didnt have with the 335. Thats what was worth the difference to me. Those magazines dont touch on the little things that anal consumers like me think about; folding rear seats in 335 not available in G, heavily intrusive traction control in the G - not so much in the 335, piss poor mpg results in the real world for the G - better with the 335. I could go on but whats the point. We all enjoy what we are driving without the need for a magazine to tell us why.

everytime u read where the g37 "beats" the 335i in a test its always "both cars were really great... the bmw had the performance edge but we are going to say the g37 is better sinces its so much cheaper"
AKA bmw is the better car... but the g37 is cheaper and ALMOST as good as the bmw... i was all set on getting the g37 and then i ended up with the 335i... ITS A MUCH DIFFERENT CAR pay to play... i used to have a honda accord v6... thats muchhh cheaper then the g37 and ALMOST as fast... hahahaha does that mean the honda gets the win?? |

The G35 is a great car, especially with the 6MT and the sport package. The LSD is very nice, I thought the interior was certainly adequate, and the engine, while not quite as torquey certainly had some guts. I'm not sure the 335 is 10k better either. That said, I like turbo power over NA so the 3er was really the only one I was going to get.

The thing is, it's not a 10k difference when you schlepp on some options in the G37 so that it's comparably equipped. People are saying like 4-5k at most.

Sorry man, you need to go back to your info-source. Its a G35. Only the G37 is designated for the coupe at the moment.

I find it interesting that they criticize the dual exhaust on the 335i: "Does an inline-6 really justify two exhaust exits? Perhaps the stylists won that battle."
Sure, it's styling, but why criticize it on the 335i and none of the others? EVERY OTHER CAR in the comparison has that exact same exhaust styling.

LOL, and what G35 owner would not trade for a 335? Lets stick to the facts, The 335 was the best in most categories in that review. If anything it should have won but stated it was expensive. When there is a better car for the price than a BMW I will be the first in line to buy it, I don't care who makes it.

hahaha look at this from the same report... BMW is #1 in almost everything... they start falling back to 2,3 and 4 when it comes to Climate control buttons... hahahaha
when it comes to engine and handling they are #1 on this test... all that matters to me... http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do.../pageId=132209 |

This is fact! The G37 that I test drove was about 4-5k cheaper than the comparably equipped 335i. 335i is a no-brainer!

They have 30+ unsold G37s on some dealer lots
I dont think they sell I thought it would be "hotter" car than it is, but i dont think 4K diff justifies G37. They should have priced it much lower than it is |

one of the reasons why i was pushed away from the g37 was cause when i went in for a lease number they were over $700 a month with $2,500 down... ARE U KIDDING ME?! if they were in the $500's that would be a big reason to go with the g37 over a $700's per month bmw... but when they are both priced side by side... its sad... thats why they aren't selling |

I drove both before I decided to buy a 335xi. I thought their review was pretty fair. I think comparably equipped the price difference is more than $4-5K...when I priced a few months ago I was thinking $8-9K. Anyway, they gave the 335 the edge in almost every category. For people who aren't willing to pay top dollar for the best in class, I think the G35 is a very good buy. Its a lot of performance for the money, and the interior, while still not up to the BMW, is much better than the previous generation. However, I went for the 335xi because (1) I knew I would be kicking myelf in a few months for not spending the money to get what I really wanted (2) the 335 is just a much more polished piece and (3) they don't sell a G35x with a manual transmission (and I hear their manual sucks anyway). Also, I'm still trying to figure out why there is no more rear seat room in the G35 than the 335 when the G35 exterior dimensions are so much larger (something like 9 inches).

I've seen two G37's, both were S models. They look bland and bloated from behind, but the front is pretty muscular and aggressive...looks good there. Still, I don't think it has the same visual appeal as a pair of angel eyes rolling down the road.
