So I was able to get this installed by reverse engineering the harness and ordering the parts from the retrofit kit that were available. I am doing a writeup of the full process including making the fiber optic MOST bus cables, where to install the fiber connections etc. The two added modules, the ULF-SBX-H and the USB hub each only have 2 connections to the car, one for power, the other for ground. The audio cable from the USB plug connects directly to the ULF-SBX-H, but a different cable is needed from the one that connects to the back of the head unit, the original has 3 wires, L, R and Gnd, the ULF one has 4, L,R,Gnd and Shield.
In the meantime if anyone has questions PM me here. |

It works
Everything works! I have IPOD and USB, figured out the coding using NCSexpert. To get people started here is the parts list, the items listed in quantity 10 must be ordered in multiples of 10, unless you have a dealer who will sell them as singles, I needed 12 sockets and 2 pins for the actual work: Parts list USB components USB socket 61 31 9 129 651 (no substitute) pigtail 61 12 9 187 009 USB hub 84 10 9 123 739 USB hub housing 84 10 9 125 680 USB hub housing cap 84 10 9 125 866 foam housing for footwell 51 47 9 125 333 Connection wire for HUB/MULFII 61 11 9 129 361 Connection wire for USB/HUB 61 11 9 129 360 Wiring harness components socket housing MULF 36 pos 61 13 6 920 062 socket housing MULF 18 pos 61 13 6 920 064 covering cap MULF 61 13 6 920 074 pigtail socket 61 13 0 005 197 quantity 20 pigtail pin 61 13 0 005 198 quantity 10 3 pin socket, usb hub 61 13 8 377 072 4 pin socket mulf-tcu 61 13 8 373 316 4 pin terminal mulf-tcu 61 13 6 925 611 Optical fiber components option 1 Optical fiber cable, terminated 61 12 0 142 318 Optical fiber pin 61 13 6 901 847 Optical fiber socket 61 13 6 901 846 Envelope f optical fiber cable 61 13 8 387 214 Fiber-optic cable, connector housing 61 13 6 917 978 Optical fiber components option 2 Optical fiber cable, terminated 61 12 0 142 318 quantity 2 Envelope f optical fiber cable 61 13 6 919 111 Envelope f optical fiber cable 61 13 8 387 214 Fiber-optic cable, connector housing 61 13 6 917 978 The second fiber option is for people who dont want to try and terminate their own fiber optic cable like I did. I only attempted it because I have terminated multimode fiber in the past and understand the concepts of what a bad termination looks like. I used the polishing paper to get a nice clean end to the cables I made, more on that later for the brave ones who want to attempt it. |

The HUB is there in the parts , the MULF has several different part numbers over the years, look on REALOEM or BMWFANS.info. I got mine from a guy in the UK on Ebay. Just make sure its a MULF High or ULF-SBX-H with the most connectors. The first one I picked up is missing the USB connectors and is only useful for Bluetooth. The only other items that are needed are some quality wire for power and a length of 3 pin shielded wire (4 total connections) to go from the socket to the Mulf. Above is the list of items I needed to order from BMW to get this to work. If you do not have a TCU then you also need a bracket 65-15-9-135-687. I have one of these cheap if someone wants to make an offer

Yes I took a lot of photos that I need to go in and edit and annotate, that will come later. I wanted to get the parts list out there since there is a lead time on parts. I tapped into power on the TCU power and ground connections since the mulf attaches to the same fuse. If I had to do it again I would just run a separate ground up to the grounding block the TCU connects to, which I have a picture of. I figured that out after I made the harness.

Anyone know what is needed for 6NF in a 2011?
I have Premium package with Nav/BlueTooth and iPod/USB option 6FL in my build but didn't get 6NF and to late now. Do I just need to order the baseplate part number or is there more to it?
Wondering if all the wiring already there to just add the base-plate in? Realoem doesn't really show much. There is some type of media component, not sure if that is needed or already there with 6FL in a 2011. I don't have the car yet, will be here in three of more weeks. |

Successful 6FL retrofit from BMW Kit
I have a 2009 E93 w/ premium package, no nav. I was able to obtain the 6FL retrofit kit from a U.S. OEM parts retailer who obtained it from Germany. Bought the correct, necessary MULF High module from another OEM, and installed the kit and module myself.
Attempted coding via OBD/NCS and CAN. Found out the radio head (rad2) that everything works through is only fully codable via the MOST bus (fiber optic), and wasn't willing to invest in more hardware. Met w/ the very cool shop foreman at the local BMW dealer who coded me up for a VERY reasonable price (less than an hour labor ), and I am good to go! I would be happy to share part numbers and experiences via pm or email with anyone who is interested. There are some particular issues with the model year (2009) and verts that I could flag. I've got to tell you, though, it's not exactly a cost-effective (that is, smart!) way to play music in your ride (a little less than $1k total), but it was a real fun challenge just to pull it off. |

#84-10-9-229-740 ULF Module High (Tischer BMW) The retrofit kit was: #65-41-0-445-465 (World Impex) This kit includes USB hub, bracket for MULF, assorted other bits, and two wiring harnesses: MULF to radio and MULF to USB hub and socket |

I have tried to find the answer by reading through this whole thread and still haven't found it. Maybe someone can help me decipher this:
I have a 2008 335i sedan with I-Drive (production date 11-02-2007) The options i have on it are the following: S609A - Navigation System Professional S620A - Voice Control S639A - Preparation for mobile phone cpl. USA/CDN S655A - Satellite Tuner S677A - HiFi sytem Professional DSP S694A - Provisions for BMW 6 CD Changer S925A - Dispatch Protection Pack I listed these just in case any of them affect each other. My question is: The only thing i wan to add is the USB option (6FL). As far as i understand (I know i could be wrong) the only thing i need to make this work is the actual 6FL kit, install by connecting to existing TCU and code it to work? Please any and all help is appreciated. |

the 6FL kit should come with a MULF2 which controls the USB and Aux in. your cd changer may or may not work after this retrofit. if you currrently do not have bluetooth phone, you may want to do the retrofit at the same time. |

I do have Bluetooth connectivity but no CD Changer, the car is only prewired for it but doesn't have it installed.
So, if i understand correctly i need the MULF unit along with the 6FL wire harness? It won't work with what i currently have installed in my car? |

There are several routes to USB
And that makes it confusing.
The older cars require a lot of expensive hardware if you go OEM. BMW will tell you its not possible in the US but people on this board have done it. There are some aftermarket adapters such as the mobridge or Dension gateway 500. Then there is this new one using a Euro Oem Hu that has USB , bluetooth and HD radio built in . http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=687463 The first two require the cd changer option be enabled the last one also needs programming as described in the link. |

the complete kit will come with the MULF, harness, USB hub, USB/Aux in port, etc. basically all hardware that is needed for this retrofit.
