Installed M3 paddles on Pre-LCI E90 (sports steering wheel)

I got this set a while back and finally had the chance to install.

fit was perfect and no cuts/trims needed to the steering wheel. It's GREAT to be able to finally up/down shift properly.

No rewires needed at all, simple plug & play. Removing the steering wheel was a pain though.

The M3 paddles do this automatically, just install and the paddles shift functions change.

FWIW, I just did this on an LCI 2010 335. It had SSG paddles. It is truly plug and play. Now right side is only upshift and left side is only downshift.

I had assumed you knew that on most other cars (besides previous generation paddles on Porsches which I HATED), + means upshift and - means downshift. On the BMW the Teutons, in their wisdom, decided pulling back is upshift and pushing forward is downshift...repeated on both sides, which to me is maddening and quite stupid (Jeremy Clarkson's voice). When you pull on the standard paddle(s), the paddle sends + pulse to the transmission and it upshifts, when you push the paddle(s), the paddle sends - pulse to the transmission and it downshifts.

Now, the M3 paddles, if you had a chance to actually read up on various threads that's covered this subject ad nauseam (search function helps), does only one thing on each side: the right side only sends + pulse, and the left side only sends - pulse to the transmission, therefore you get upshifts and downshifts only.

Does that answer "anyones" question? Is the "you" plural in your case? We are the Borg? Sorry couldn't help it...not being mean, just a good 'o LOL.

Good info, this is slick. I would def use these more on my 335 if they were just right side up , left side down.

It is correct they are a simple plug and play upgrade the make the up shifting and down shifting function and work they way the car should have come with.

There's a guy in the for sale section that sells new ones for a great price

There's only one M3 paddles, and maybe it's your steering wheel? But if you have the sports package with existing buttons, my experience is that you don't need any trimming (see pictures). Have you tried installing and found you need to trim?

How much do M3 paddles usually run? Is it really better? How? To me it seems more convenient to have paddles that can do both functions, but this is my first car with paddles.
