Valve cover help

Hey fellow forum members.

I am currently working on a 2006 325xi Production 02/2006 N52
with aluminum Valve cover (not the black plastic)

My issue is I can not seem to get the correct fitting Eccentric Shaft Sensor Seal.
11127559699 is what I received and this thing will not fit

I am almost finished putting the car back together but this is still a big issue. Please help....

Update: I also ordered 11127528242 does not fit same size as 11127559699

I used 11127528242 on my Mg VC. And according to realoem it's the same part for your car as well. $15 from fcpeuro.

11127528242 is the correct part number and is what I used when I replaced my VCG and ESS. I'll ask a dumb question. Did you drive the old seal out of the valve cover? The old seal is pretty difficult to remove and when aged looks like part of the valve cover. You may be thinking the old seal is already removed when it is not. You need a properly sized socket to drive the old seal out of the valve cover. The only made the N52 with the magnesium valve cover for one model year, so there is no different valve cover that would require a different ESS seal.

If you can money-shift it, it's a manual transmission. "Yeah, but NO ONE puts an automatic trans shift knob on a manual transmission."

Are you sure some of the old seal is not still in the hole? IIRC the old seal gets pretty brittle. I remember when I did my VCG replacing the ESS seal was a pain in the ass because it didn't come out cleanly and the metal ring of the seal was hard to distinguish from the metal of the valve cover. Magnesium is a very reactive metal and bonds through galvanic reaction with almost any metal that is not aluminum.

I hope you get it solved.

Thank you .. I went ahead and got a flat head screw driver and pliers and kept at the ring on the cover and yep.... Just the ring was left stuck on cover.

Glad you got it fixed (well halfway). I had the same issue with my car.

Peace.

So, I think I'm dealing with the same issue here. Getting the old seal off was an absolute nightmare and now I can't push the new one in. I have a metal ring that looks to me like it 100% is a part of the valve cover itself, but maybe not?

As you can see I scratched up the area trying to get the old one off. Is that raised lip still a part of the old seal?

Well to answer my own question... see attached photo for what the hole looks like without the ESS seal.

All it took was a flathead/scraper and a few sold hits with a big hammer to the back of the tool to get it loose.

Used the flat side of a big scraper blade and hammered the new one in.
