Anyone seen this before?

This is from my 08 320i vert.

The clearcoat is lifting around stone chips and is getting worse!!

Has anyone had a similar experience? If so what is the best approach with BMW?

Many thanks

Paul

I had one on my front bumper - BMW repaired it as a gesture of goodwill!

Wow, how strange. Noticed this exact thing on my front bumper the other day! Clearcoat lifting straight off. Was going to have it redone anyway due to stonechips so have not been too fussed about it...

looks like early clearcoat failure to me, around chipped areas, but i assume you have ruled that one out being a professional detailer. Either you have polsihed the crap out of it leaving too thin a clearcoat, and the chipped areas are first to show, or its was too thin in the first place.
Do you have a paint gauge and if so what are the readings?

Forgot to add - DONT jetwash the area - big chunks of clearcoat may come off! - Mine was on the plastic bumper tho.

Thanks for the thoughts, I have never machined the car as I have had it from new. The worst of the damage is on the NSF wing which is plastic so the PTG is a no goer. As you say the clearcoat is lifting around stone chips and getting worse. We have 3 other 'budget' cars on the drive and none have damage like this. Infact all the chips are showing early signs of the same 'lift'.

had something similar on my old car turned out the car was resprayed before I picked it up as an approved and work was not done correctly, eventually where the new laquer was meeting the old it stasrtd to peal back.

In the end whole boot hadn to be painted. In this case could be stone chips or as often it is bird droppings.

Update.

I have been told by the dealer that warranty are not prepared to consider paint, so Mr customer 'your paint peels when damaged by stones so get used to it!'

My PTG and Thorne confirm it has not had any repair work.

I have finally had enough of this car, what with one thing and another, the worst being the hesitation etc. Thankfully I have no finance so can send it up the road fairly easily!

I have a bid of £24k from Prestige Cars in Sunnigdale and £23500 from Barons, they are having a think about it! It will probably retail at about £25k and the 9s. I might put it up on Autotrader when I get back from my hols in a weeks time.

Thanks, that pic shows exactly the same as mine. The PTG readings show 150-180m.
