Hose replacement for $950?
Hi all,
My car is on the BMW extended warranty (platinum) and I brought the car in for engine light and was also running a bit rough on idle. Anyway, the SA says thermostat needs replacement which is covered but 4 of my hoses are leaking which is not covered. I double checked my policy and this is true (wear and tear items excluded). They say it's wear and tear since the car is 6 years old (2007 335i model) but needs replacement ASAP. Recommended I don't drive the car until it's fixed. Anywho the kicker is that they want $950 to replace all 4 hoses. Does this seem reasonable? From the sound of things a lot of it will be labor costs as the car won't be ready until tomorrow afternoon. I tried to get some details about which hoses, he mentioned the radiator and cooling system....thoughts? |

since you dont know which hoses need to be replaced just take it in to an indy shop and see what they say.. 99.9% sure itll be cheaper than at the dealer. just have them replace the thermostat.

Many many many people on here have had their water pump and/or t-stat replaced and can't recall one of them getting 'hosed' like that

I do know that hoses are not covered, BUT......what if you got your hoses replaced or you DIY'd, so you roll in with hoses that are good. Car needs a new thermostat. Do they know remove your good hoses, change the thermostat, and put your good hoses back, and everything is covered?
Sorry, but $960 for hoses, that's a joke, don't care if it's a BMW. Actually, I think my friend paid over $1500 for a thermostat on his Porsche, maybe $960 is a bargain.... |

Sounds fishy to me... Check it out yourself and see where it leaks. Bmw's hoses are very durable... I've had bmw's that went up to 150k and never needed the hoses changed. Granted, one of yours MIGHT be bad, but definitely not all 4. Sounds like someone's taking advantage of you.
