When running a good amount of negative camber it pays to check the inner rib once in a while. This is what 3 of mine looked like when my right rear gave out 53 miles from nowhere.

This is the left front tire. The right front was not through to the fabric.

I run 2 degrees camber which is the least that I can, my car is low so I should run more but this is why not...

Hope you had a spare. Why do you run so much neg camber? Offset/fit of the wheels?

I run -2.0 in the rear and -2.5 up front. This is my third summer on my PSS and just a bit less mileage than yours. They look nothing like that.

Sorry to hear that dFan. That's a bummer. What are your camber specs? I don't seem to remember them being too crazy aggressive (aggressive, just not crazy aggressive)

dFan has the M3 suspension upgrades. Is there more to story than -2.0 camber maybe?

Has to be chamber, the Z3 from the factory use to leave with like 6 degree champer and they would get 6k miles out of them, unless its rubbing somewhere under the fender due to ride height, but im and inch or two off the ground and have no wear like that, knock on wood...

I think something else is going on here, when did you have your last alignment?

I have those too.

I'm running -2.5 up front and my tires look nothing like that.

Could be his toe settings that caused the excessive wear. What is your "toe out" specs for the rear?

EDIT: I don't think the added extra weight of that trip you took recently helped the situation either.

I would have preferred this puncture to my failure. Although far from civilization I had plenty of space to operate.

I had a donut spare with tools, some slime, a plug kit, and a good portable compressor. Good thing because I had no signal (0 bars) on my hand phone.

Don't have alignment sheet with me. 25k miles ago was the last alignment for the rear and I don't remember the setting. Fronts were done about 7-8k ago after VAC repaired my front struts. Their printer was out of paper and I forgot to ask. 25k ago they were about -1.7 degrees as I recall.

Note all four were wearing out the same exact way at slightly different rates.

Good thing it didn't happen at 100 mph.

The heavily weighted trip probably accelerated the wear pattern I am guessing. A lot of hard core mountain driving on coarse surfaces contributed too.

Btw I replaced them with Nitto Motivos. Same size -- 235/40-18 square. Softer but they inspire less confidence in the bends. But I have had them less than 12 hours so time will tell.

You know they make plug kits. Using a bolt is a bit too "redneck".

The Motivo's are great for comfort and mileage. So are Conti DWS or DW. The Motivo's price point is the best part

I'm on Michelin PSS and have around 15k miles- they are incredible. 7/32 and 6/32, even wear. My camber is -2.0 out back and -1.4 up front (the least I could get). Literally even tread wear all around, but I have had the tires balanced/side-swapped once and will do it again in the next few months.

I agree with the others- lots of weight, high neg. camber and sandpaper roads for thousands of miles.

Wow, same thing happened to me one morning a few months ago with the exact same type of screw...bolt...whatever the hell that is. Where do these come from anyway? Luckily I was able to patch it up at a nearby shop but they did a shitty job since there was a slow leak so thanks to my tire warranty with America's Tire, I got a replacement. Almost two weeks for them to get one though because the PSS is in such high demand!
