Turbo Replacement/Upgraded/Fix

Hey guys, so my stock turbos are rattling...pretty bad for my liking. Does anyone have experience with a shop that can rebuild or fix this issue? What have people in the South Florida area been doing to address this? Any recommendation appreciated.

Thanks

Replace them. Rebuilding costs almost the same and then you still have sucky low power oem turbos. Most of the cost of new turbos is the labor which you'd spend on taking them out to rebuild anyway. You can buy a good aftermarket setup for under $3000, or better new oem style for $1500 with redesigned wastegates, etc.

The unknown is what's killing me. Is it possible that the new OEM turbos can start rattling again? Are there any good aftermarket turbos locally or its either stock or wait months to get aftermarket from PURE or HEXXON ?

I'm sure Pure, Hexxon, VTT, or RB would have something in stock. Be a week shipping. Don't get caught up in the pure Hexxon bs. All the makers are as good or better than them product wise.

What was the cost for rebuilding and labor to remove? Which shop was used?

Thanks

Pure and Hexxon are new to n54 but bigger companies known for turbos for other cars. RB is the oldest and tops for customer service. VTT has sucked for customer service but hired a cs guy to fix it. He's about as old as RB but makes more power per buck typically. I use VTT. I wan ted the bestimate turbos nit the bestimate cus to me service. If he wasn't there I'd have RB. Hexxon are made in Taiwan. RB and VTT hand made in US. I don't know pure at all otherwise. Both pure and Hexxon are n54 turbo makers for only a year or so vs 5+ for the other guys.

But realize that's a loaded question and opinions will vary. Dyno's on the other hand don't.

The waste gates are the problem area. Idk if that's rebuildable or needs a different style WG to fix the issue. The turbos themselves are pretty sturdy. Stage 1 from an aftermarket are pretty competitively priced and have better wastegates. Vargas has new rebuilt oem for $999 and stage 1 for $1,499. See how the service matches up.

Dont think I'll have the time to even attack this job on my own. Let me know how the rebuild goes and if the place in Miami has good turbos for your car.

Thanks

I rebuilt mine with some CHRA's from RB and 3k miles later, no wastegate rattle, holding 18psi to redline, and no more smoke.. Only downside was I only had the weekends to work on it so it took me for-fkn-ever..

BTW there's a wastegate rattle fix solution for $100 by TurboLab.. if your turbos are working fine and not smoking or anything, may be worth a shot.. Unless you got a few G's you're tryna get rid of and want to make some higher HP #'s, than I'd say aftermarket.. But keep in mind, it's not just a set it and forget it deal, you have to also purchase supporting mods.. Otherwise you're spending $3k to drive around on 7psi and still feel like you have stock turbos.. Just my .02

Another thing i was thinking about in resepct to HEXXON / PURE. What else will be needed to get the most out of them? I will likely have MHD tune, already have dp's,fmic, intake, exhaust and all vaccum hoses been changed over to silicone.

Thanks for your input !

Make sure they aren't still covered under the ext. warranty first.
