Should I try an A5??

After the loss of the E91, I'm now looking in vain for a replacement.
Should I have a look at the A5 Sportback 5 door, with the 3 litre 245bhp Derv engine??
I don't NEED an estate, but I like a hatch or similar for the dog.
According to manufacturer figures, the A5 is a little quicker 0-60 with similar fuel economy. Servicing is supposed to be cheaper over 3 years, although I won't be buying new. Insurance a little less.
What are they like to drive? Can I cope with 4 seats instead of 5???

Comments please, before I go and have a look . . . . .

Mike

Only one way to find out if you like it.

Also what is stopping you getting another e91?

I'm quite surprised by that, the E91 335D has an extra 40 odd ponies over the A5,is there much of a weight difference between the 2?
How do the 2 compare in torque?

Audis are not renowned for there fuel efficiency either.

Worth a look and test drive though,if only for a laugh

The book figure is quicker, in reality it isn't. 4wd is heavy and eats up the power. But they look great!!

Just browsing really - I'd love another E91, but Le Mans Blue ones are not commonly for sale at the moment - just white or black it seems.

Bear in mind that it took me the best part of a year to find the one I had - not being someone who rushes into things you know!

Audi is losing a lot of power to the 35d, and a huge amount of torque too, 360 against 580 IIRC which is quite a leap.

Maybe have a look next week

NO!

Audi's just do not compare as driver's cars. They have some showroom appeal, but in the end this wears off and all you've got is a sterile drive with a fancy interior.

Someone on here changed to a A6 and is rueing the day he did so. The A5 won't be any different, it would be a disaster.

Depends on how you drive. If you want comfort and quality then the Audi is fine. If you want quality and a great driving experience then stick with BMW.

I had an A8. Immense car in every way but the driving experience felt almost remote. A5's look lovely though.

Sounds like a German dominatrix dungeon

There is a lot to be said for ruthless yet sterile Germanic efficiency.

A pretty face, but a lousy shag, has never been a truly satisfactory experience for anyone!!

Don't do it - stick with BMW.

Having owned an early E92 and driven a few A5 variants I can confidently say that the BMW drive is sharper, but for most daily driving the A5 is a very nice place to be. Quality cabin and not as numb a drive as some people state, but that's all down to personal opinion. I wouldn't discount it.

A7 is too big - otherwise I'd go back to a 5 series, or maybe an XF.

The A4 is all but obsolete in both Avant and Saloon, but let's face it, the E91 is obsolete too, and there is no such thing as a new 335d yet! The E91 looks a lot better than the Avant anyway.

I agree the LM Blue e91 335d's are hard to find, if fact they are difficult to find in ANY colour but they do eventually come along if you're prepared to wait it out.

How about a e90 335d with 'folding rear seats, you wont be losing a great deal of space over the e91, though I know they are also difficult to find.

If you don't need the MPG, I'd seek out an 3.0 Twin Turbo S4 over the A5 variants. Gets really good reviews and a bit stealthy. £25-30k for 1-2 year old one

The F30 estate (F31?!) is imminent..

Worth waiting for I'd bet.

But there is now an F30 330d with 13hp over the E9X 330d.

Just put the dog in the boot.

Fuel economy day-to-day isn't a major issue, although going back below 30mpg wouldn't be pleasant. However, put the caravan on the back and I'd imagine consumption in the low teens, which would be a killer. Plus the A4 shape is just about obsolete now.

Phil - I'm not buying a new car, so by the time a 335d Touring comes out, I'll not be able to afford one until this car is due for a change!

I did spec a 330d Touring on the BMW configurator thing. Came out in the region of 44k with nothing overly special added on. Way too much for me, particularly as I can get a pre-registered 335d E91 with some toys for £33k without haggling. As long as it's white or black.

Maybe a full car wrap!?!?!?!

my mum just bought an A5 Sportback, I was a bit skeptical but the hatchback practicality and the good looks swayed me, shes gone for the 2.0d, it arrives next month so I can report back then!

If you decide to go for the Audi then I would try both SE and S-Line. The A6 S-Line I used to have was an awful ride on anything other than Motorway/dual carriage way. Every review I read on the A6 said don't get the S-Line because of the ride, so I did, for the looks only, and wished I'd not. People complain about M-sport suspension/RFT's but they're a dream compared. Oh, and it was shite on fuel, no where near the quoted figures (2.0 tdi multitronic).

Someone on here recently swapped a 2.0d Audi for a 335d and get better MPG and 100HP more
