not sure if its a repost...but americas tire co repairs runflats

back in early 2008, no norcal americas tire co would repair runflats even if it was in the acceptable area to repair.

had a nail in the middle of the tread with only 1500 miles and stopped by to see if they'd be willing to do it.

the rep who was helping me said corporate removed the restriction and they are able to repair tires now.

glad i stopped by before shelling out $$$ for a new tire.

Yea they have been doing it for a while. But my americas tire rep AKA my older bother told me it lowers the speed rating on the tire.

Any repair on any tire lowers the speed rating one level. A second repair lowers it one more. Third repair lowers it to the bottom. IOW, get rid of it.

Hard to believe anyone would repair RFT when the manufacturers stamp right on them that they should be replaced after going flat. Way too much liability in this lawsuit happy country we live in today.

Getting a nail in it does not necassarily equal going flat even in a non-RFT. It usually means a slow loss of pressure. As long as a RFT does not go to zero pressure and you start loading the sidewall, they are ok to repair.

America's Tire will repair your tire free of charge, runflat or not. Did it for me last year. They will check for any internal damage of the tire & if the nail was in the tread area it can be plugged. I was asked how far I had driven on the tire which was about 2 miles.

Got out of the tire business years ago but I wouldn't want to touch these things. Do they have some kind of indicator that they have been run flat? That would make it easy.

What if it goes flat while stationary? Any issues?

No indicator that I am aware of that a runflat tire was run flat other than the indicator on the Idrive informing you about loss of pressure. They are designed to be runflat.

Now if only they will not make a huge deal about my spacers. As it stands now, I will have to take my car to Costco tire center for rotation and rebalance.

Anyone know if Costco can do a good enough job there? The cost is only $17.

Right but according to the warning stamped on the side, they are to be replaced after being run flat only once. With no visual indication that they are no longer road worthy (according to the manufacturer), there is nothing stopping an unscrupulous person from repariing or worse, re-selling them.
