Lease Or Finance?

So im just wondering how many of you are leasing or financing?

With leasing, don't you pretty much have to keep the car stock?
If they notice you change DP and ecu, there would be penalties?

im not sure if i should lease or finance? I can financially afford the finance
but some say its better to lease as the time comes up, just get something new,
but you lose all your monthly payments...

Whats your situation or opinion? Thanks

If you dont plan on keeping your car a long time, then I would just lease.

You can mod, but even if you've purchased, there's a chance the stealership would deny warranty coverage if your mod is alleged to affect the car in any way.

So, you can mod as long as you are aware of the consequences. You'd sell your mods before you return the car to stock before the end of your lease (better keep your stock parts if you plan on modding!).

For my case, if I buy it back after the lease, it will be slightly cheaper than finance for 60 mth. So I go for lease even I planned to keep the car for over 7yr. Since I can return it if this one has bad reliablity like my old E46. Also, if the car price is going to drop more in the future, they may offer discount on buy back.

yes, you loose all the payment....but if you think the car also depreciate after few years, thats the money you will loose anyway. As Nathan said, you can mod your car but just make sure you keep all the OEM parts. Just put them back before you return the car.

so your saying that after the lease is over and if you decide to buy out (residual) is still cheaper than the total payments from finance??

If it is could you elaborate more on that? Ive gone thru some calculation and buying the car out after the lease is never cheaper than financing...

It depends on the % for financing vs. leasing. Quick example is recently the lease rate was 2% IIRC, finance was 5.9% when you factor in the savings in interest over the lease term and factor in the lengthier finance charges (lease 3 years + finance 3 more years vs. finance 5 years at higher %) it might be cheaper or more or less the same. As I said it really depends on the %, you have to crunch some numbers a little to determine what is best.

One advantage of the lease is that you have the option of handing over the keys if you are not satisfied, you feel like changing, etc. Another is if the lease payment is a tax deduction for you then a lease is even a more interesting proposition for you.

it all depends on your situation... lease has alot of benefits that people usually don't see and think it's a waist of money...
