New member and a few questions

Hi all,

I am an Aussie working in Scotland and currently own both a Oct 2010 E92 M3 Coupe, Competition pack, DCT, White with Black leather, HK Stereo, Auto Stop / Start and few other bits and pieces (just picked it up for less than $59,000 AUD!!) - 12,900KM.

AND

A 2004 E46 M3, SMG, Nav, Heated seats, HK stereo etc. 90,000KM. Can't sell it for more than $14,500 here!

Both I am planning on bringing back with me when I come back to OZ to live in about 12 months time (one in my name, one in my partners name, because she drives it after all and it is kinda hers but work with me here.........

So, a few questions for you guys in OZ :

- How do I tell if the car is a MY10, MY10.5 or MY11? They don't really seem to have this idea here in the UK, the year is the date its registered, not the model.
- What do you think the re-sale will be like for the E92 in 12 months time?
- How much do you think people will care its an import (I have heard everything from "I would not touch it if you paid me" to, "Who cares, as long as I can prove the history".

Would appreciate any thoughts......

Personally would not be interested in an import. I know too many bad stories, but forget that buy and drive

Yeh I appreciate that, but if you are thinking of shipping them back to oz to sell for a profit then I'd say don't

E92 M3 import would be worth about 80k in 12 months time.
An Aussie dealer delivered 2010 model in 12months would be worth ~95-105 I reckon.

People won't care as long as it's priced right. Will put some buyers off but yeh people would still be interested at the right price.

To confirm a car's build date, look at the plate on the underside of the bonnet.

In Australia, rego and insurance documents list the car by its build year, so a car built in December 2012 will be MY12. BMW usually updates its model lineup in September of each year (with minor technology updates and/or changes to standard equipment/packages) and this is what they use in the USA, so a car built in/after September 2012 will be MY13. I don't know about the UK.

As for MY10.5, I think this applies when an LCI (refresh) model is introduced part way through the year, so an E92 LCI built in 2010 would be MY10.5 to distinguish it from a pre-LCI E92 built in the same year.

Thanks all for the thoughts. I have doubled checked and found that its in fact a MY11 as its Oct 2010 so that will help with sales.

Certianly will NOT be sellling for $59K, thanks anyway suff (nice try though)! Going to cost another $20K to being into the country so will owe me $80 I think.

But given there is a 2011 Comp pack with the same KM's for $145K at the moment, i would hope that $80+ is a realistic number in 12 months (I am an optimist though...

That you are right.... Funny when I first searched for an Aussie E92 forum it did not come up (probably because its a E90 forum...) and the closest I could find was the E46 so as I have a E46 anyway, I thought, what the hell......

Always worth a shot.. but on a side note if your spending $20k to bring a car into this country, your doing it VERY wrong!

This is based on an offical quote for costs of shipping ($2K), insurance ($500), aust port fees ($1.5K), GST ($7k), import duty ($3.5k), LCT ($1K), compliance ($750), roadworthy ($150), registration ($600), stamp duty ($2.5K) etc. So full costs from the minute it leaves the house in Edinburgh to the time its legally on the road and registered in OZ.

And that is about the right price (might be 10-20% + or - but give or take, that is the right figure for rough estimates).....

If you know how to go this cheaper, please let me know as I am always looking for alternative (legal and realistic) options if they are available.
