I know this is one of those threads that's not meant to be taken seriously, because once again, who would base such a decision on a forum where the avg age is probably under 20?

I know that if it were me, the answer would be no. I would leave her the fob, but with the understanding that there's no legitimate reason to use the BMW.

It's funny how some of the responses were, "My daddy bought me this 50k car, and that's all it is, a car, so who gives a c***?"

I dunno about the other guys out there, and I know many are still in high school, but I've dated 8 women in the last 4 years before getting engaged. Am I supposed to trust 7 women with my belongings when in fact down the road they are not going to be my wife? Do I need to score points with them by loaning my car out? If so, then that's not a very good relationship.

For those who take life seriously, making rash decisions can create an outcome like what is found in an Ingmar Bergman film. Life's not a joke, nor is a 50k car. Ask your g/f if you can keep her engagement ring while she's away on business, or can you show your friends her jewelry box.

In the end, be a man. It's your car, and it's your conscience. Follow it. It has nothing to do with how good a driver someone is. Your buddies are good drivers, would you loan them your car while you're away? Like I've said before, one loaned me his Carerra 4S, with the understanding I was going to take it in for warranty work while he was overseas for months. To this friend, yes, the car is nothing more than a car. It's both insured and leased.

Just make sure she knows to park it away from other cars and walk the extra 100 feet. And when you get home check the wheels for rash or dents as well. Otherwise there is little she can do to hurt it. She sounds like a good driver, just make sure she can park as well as she can drive.

Let her drive it as long as she calls her insurance company and adds it to her policy temporarily....if she damages the car, then at least your insurance won't go up because of it...

If she doesn't understand that reasoning, then you have the perfect reason for not letting her drive your car.
If she's going to be mad, at least your reason won't be "because she's a girl"

To the "it's just a car" folks, sure, that's you. Maybe it's not "just a car" to the OP.

And this has nothing to do with trust either. It has everything to do with how the OP is going to react if he comes back and there is a tiny little dent on the door. Or some scratches on the front bumper where some idiot in a parking lot bumped the car carelessly. Or, God forbid, she does get into an accident.

Even if all these things are completely NOT her fault, the OP may not react well, or worst case, may flip out and cause permanent damage to the relationship. Unfair? Yeah maybe but I would side with the OP.

My wife has driven the car around the block a couple times (which took a leap of faith on my part) but she's realized how anal I am about the car. It doesn't go out if it's gonna rain, and it doesn't go on trips to the supermarket or mall unless there is a lot of open parking. She understands and respects my obsession with the car and realizes that there are three other cars she can drive OTHER than my 335i.

Sorry, if you're obsessive about your car, and there's something else she can drive, she should drive the alternate car. If something happens to your car while she's driving it (her fault or not), you need to ask yourself how you're going to react and base your decision on THAT.
