Golf Tee Mod...
I have read a bunch about everyone and the sound/performance of the golf tee mod. The sound is different, much different.
Performance wise, I'm not to sure what you gain, but I do know that when i did the mod, sitting still the car seemed to respond and jump in RPM quicker when revving the engine. I am posting 2 WAV files first stock and then one modded. I did not move the mic nor the car. The mic was placed about 5 feet off the passenger door. The two sounds clips were taken approximately 5 mins apart. I did not do the golf tee thing. For comparisons sake I used one of these.. and pinched the hose off. I don't know about new... and it's an old topic but i haven't seen anyone post a comparison of the two. Thought it would be helpful for those considering it.

Au335... did you take that clip when the engine was up to temp or was that from a cold start? I'm just asking because all I have read on here was about how it sounded better during cold starts, but nothing much about how it sounded once the car was warmed up.

I appreciate the links.. I just used a couple of zips ties about a week ago to see what I thought... So far I am like I like the sound when messing around, but when just going down the road the extra noise gets old after awhile.

I just tried this mod, and I don't like it. It is subtle, but I think cheaper-sounding.
I think BMW engineered this correctly, and having twice the gases going through one pipe at certain RPMs gives a more refined sound. |
