Rear lights LED

Hi

Coming back from York after selling the S5 yesterday we (momentarily) followed an M3 down a stretch of the M62. When he (I'm assuming it was a he) pressed the brakes the rear lights lit up in blobs of LED rather than in bars. Do you know what I mean?

Are those lights available on the standard 3-series or is it a M3 only thing? They looked wicked!

They were the LCI rear lights. The LCI cars came out last year I think?

You can retrofit them to pre LCI cars but you are looking at £500 odd in parts + fitting + coding.

I like them, but I don't like them that much

Sorry if I'm being a muppet, I'm new to BMW speak (E this, that and the other) but what does LCI stand for?

Mine's an 11 plate (or it will be). Does that make it LCI and therefore it'll already have those super-cool lights?

LCI = Life Cycle Impulse (aka FaceLift) and yes, you will.

Great stuff thanks. Can't wait. Keep fighting the urge to go to showrooms to have a look. Esp now the S5 has gone.

Saw a LMB Tourer this morning. Had the dark wheels so must be the sport plus. Really looked the business. Oooo can't wait.

I'm finalised on 330d M-sport with a manual box in LMB. Other defos are:black Dakota, visibility pack, media pro pack, HK, heated seats, extended storage, Internet.

Still mulling over everything. Getting loads of useful info from the other guys so feel free to add your two-penneth in. The more the merrier.

Sounds great, nice options. I only just picked up my F10 with similar gadgets and the wait is hard...

F10? 5 series?

I test drove the 530d to get a feel for how much smoother the engine was than the 4piston version. Absolute beast of a car. Gorgeous. Just a bit big for us at the moment as no kids etc.

Have you posted pics up?

F10 = new 5 series. I do rather like the look of them (had an old 520d once).

No kids = second hand e90/92 M3 before being sensible

lol. I totally agree. However, I've already had an Audi RS4 (mental) and an S5. So I've been there with the performance-performance cars if you know what I mean.

I'm just moving down to Sussex over the next few weeks and will be going back up to Manchester a lot so 15mpg is just a non-starter at the moment. I need something economical for a bit (3 years I mean) so that's why I'm in the 330d as it knocks the socks of the Audi A4.
