I 've just 'downsized' from a 320dSE to a 123d M-Sport Coupe and I am absolutely loving it
Size wise, rear leg room is slightly lacking but the boot is adequate even though I have gotten use to the ample boot offered by the 320d. But apart from that, everything else is excellent !! |

With the 320d (mine was a standard 163hp), max torque of 350nm was around 2000 rpm which is the same as the 123d but the power band for the 123d is broader as the toque curve decreases from 400nm at 2000 rpm to 280nm at 5000 rpm. There is less turbo lag with the 123d and its faster off the mark |

I'd recommend the 320d of any variant but mainly the touring first (for *******, coupe second (for looks and fold down rear seats) and saloon last (not for me on looks and versatility). I have had the choice of all cars on the market including your options. The bigger the engine and less enviromentally efficient the more I pay out of my wallet on the lease. BMW brand wins hands down on lease. Alfa's are not on the list due to poor history which I'm sure we are all aware of. I had a Mercedes C220 Sport in black last weekend and does not compare with the quality of a BMW. I have to admit in walking up to the Merc it looked really classy, but as soon as you got in I was disappointed. Poor quality leather, poor quality plastic dash, boring controls, drove softer less precise than an M Sport, not as powerful as 320d, less frugal, options more expensive than BMW and cost 100 quid per month more on the lease!!! Found the 1er to be too compact in the rear seats and boot over the 320d touring which although I hate buying the same car twice that is what I have just done. I did 45,000 miles in a year with my last M Sport Touring. It was as fast as you need (faster than a 320i, and most 2.0 - 2.2 petrols and diesels, read the specs, you can also use a Spider tuning box and get 215bhp out of it!) rear wheel drive, great handling, comfortable if a little harsh with RFT's which I actulally like this. I'd suggest looking at an ex demo car from BMW. Good discount to be had over new with only a few thousand miles and a full warranty for the duration of your ownership. If new have a look at the deals on 4 cylinder petrols and diesel 1er and 3er 'Edition' models as you get upgrades on paint wheels, leather and Navigation depending on version. Happy to help on any other questions. I have also test driven Jaguar XF 2.7d, S Max 2.0d Titanium X Pack, Mercedes C220d Sport, Volvo V50 Sport.

My money would be on a white E92 M-sport 2.0d with 19's, leather (coral or saddle), 6FL and heated seats.
A £500 remap or tuning box will see you as quick in-gear as anything else in the range that doesn't have a turbocharged 3.0 litre six under the bonnet... I have a great contact for leases if you want it (I put all my work cars through him). There will be people out there that might beat him by maybe £20 or £30 a month, but his service is unequalled in the industry - I wouldn't go anywhere else.

Exactely the sort of thing I'm looking at now Doubt I could rebadge a 330i M Sport as a d lol nice suggestion though 123d Coupe is too small 320d Coupe is big enough woohoo lol! So I'm thinking - E92 320d Coupe, Alpine White, Black Leather (don't like saddle brown at all - yuck, coral red could be a consideration). I don't think I need any other extras apart from the nice wheels or I'll have the standard wheels and buy some I like, use the standards in the winter. Will start a new thread on a What E92 I think, plenty of advice here

Would defo for for the red leather instead of black!
White body NEEDS a different coloured leather instead of black, to show it off! I love white/saddle myself the best but if not white/red would look awesome. Get yourself on the BMW website and 'build' the car you want on the configurator. You can try out different colours and trim options to your hearts content! |

One other way to look at it..
And my company does a similar thing, in paying an allowance and stating silly rules.. on the type of car.. (must have four doors.. etc... ) that most of us in the role are married or have partners, with cars.. you know the sensible stuff... vectra's.. focus etc.. Now the sales team tend to declare these sensible cars as their company vehicle.. and go out and buy something fun for work.. Boxsters.. 911's and coupe's etc.. So if you have a partner.. could you not decalre that as your car.. or you mention in one of the post your mums car? Just a thought.. |

I already have two fun cars A 1990 MX5 running on Carbs with a decat exhaust, no it's ain't big or clever but sure turns heads and an E30 BMW 325i Convertible. I don't think the E39 540i would class Car has to be three years old max and diesel!

Negotiate a large payrise and generous mileage allowance in lieu of a company car and then they can stick their rules where the sun don't shine. Worked for me and I've never regretted it in 15 years
