Summer to All-seasons on staggered wheels- any problems?
Hi guys,
I'm getting a 328i Sport Wagon with the sport package so it'll have the 17x8 front and 17x8.5 rear wheels with performance tires. I really prefer all-seasons (currently have the Bridgestone RE960 AS 3rd Gen RFTs and they're a huge improvement over the standrad RFTs). Ideally, I'd just by a set of the above tires and put them on the new rims. Is it okay to run all-seasons in a staggered set-up? All of my prior cars have been square. I assume it's okay. Also, with the TPMS (my 2006 E90 doesn't have them), they just change the tires as the sensors are on the wheels, right? Nothing else required? Thank you for your help.

I've been running staggered Conti DWS A/S tires on my 128i 'vert for about 11,000 miles with no problems, whatsoever. The only thing I had to do with the TPMS was reset the system after the new tires were mounted.
Incidentally, as I would consider them when the EL42s on my E91 wear out, how are the RE960 RFTs (especially in moderate snow)? Tom |

Thanks for that! I figured it'd be fine.
Ironically, I bought the RE960s in October for the winter and Boston had next to no snow. I drove once in very light snow and they were much better than my old tires. In the rain they are probably the best wet tire I've driven. I wish I could shed more light on the moderate snow characteristic.

You're not going to run into any "problems". You will get less traction but longer tread life though.
