What do Porsche 911 turbos and BMW 335s have in common?

Hmmm... let's see:

twin turbos
two bypass valves
twin wideband o2 sensors
60-2 crank trigger wheels
6 cyclinders
German origins

and...

and last but not least, PROcede compatability! :rocks:

We've always wanted to tune 911 turbos and now we finally have the electronics to do it. We dabbled in it in the past with the Xede but it never got to the point where it worked right (various ignition problems). As of earlier this evening, using our off-the-shelf BMW PROcede, we now have complete control of boost, timing and fuel! Took some simple software and mapping changes to account for the differences in sensors (the Porsche uses both MAF and MAP and a reluctor-type crank trigger with 2 inverse CAS signals) Coool.

What makes this application even niftier, is that this marks the first time we got to test the PROcede's built-in closed loop boost control system. It works wonderfully. Fully RPM and TPS dependant. With the BMW, we are still relying on the factory boost control system. For the time being at least

Also being tested in the Porsche is the temporary overboost feature which we will also be implementing in the 335 at the same time. So basically, every single update/improvement we design for any one particular application always seems to make its way to every other application. For instance, all the time we put into the ignition timing processing logic that we developed for the 335 was directly applicable to the 911. Right off the bat, there were no wierld CELs. No misfire. Nothing. Even the wideband control we first developed with the Xede, then perfected in the PROcede is now functional in the 911. We're such dirty shameless two-timers.

And yes, this is what I do when my BMW is in the body shop

Cheers,
shiv

So you are telling me I'm gonna have to trade in the 335i on a 911 Turbo now!? Ahh, geez, that is terrible news. I'm not sure how I'm gonna break it to the wife.

Glad that worked out as it did. Now can I have some money for a 911 turbo so I can test it for you?

so are you saying that we should be very proud of our cars....
and that your research on the 911 is helping us 335i owners?
or that you just found out how to market your procede to the 911 owners?

btw:

i am very interested in the procede, and if i lived on the mainland i would have
already been vishnu tuned! (here in maui all we have is a 2 lane road w/ a 45mph speed limit!@#$%!)
i dont know how long i can hold myself back from making an order....
now the big question... will the procede be getting any smarter in the future?
should i wait? if i get it now, will i have to remove it to make the upgrades?
wait for an exhaust system before i order?
whats your advise?

thx shiv...
you are a true educator

The GIAC folks are quoting 100 HP gains on the 997TT and 75 HP on the 996TT with exhausts.

What year is your Porsche TT and what gains so far?

Nah... it's a 996. And yes, it's yeller.

Not sure how much power we'll end up making with the PROcede but I have a good feeling about it.

As for the body shop, our 335 had a little encounter with a mound of dirt a couple weeks ago during a bad rain storm. Ended up bending a couple suspension bits and scraping up a wheel. Not a big deal but the parts took a long time to get. Taking the opportunity to upgrade the wheels/tires and install the add-on aero bumper up front. Hopefully, everything will be done next week. So until then, I'm just messing around with the 996 and making a bunch of PROcede harnesses.

Cheers,
shiv

HAHA...nice Shiv. Every time I see one of your cars it has a nice nifty wire tugged from the engine to the cabin!! The ride in your old Porsche scared me, I can't begin to imagine what this monster will do....

Very nice work Shiv! My buddy use to have a 996TT with a giac chip if I remember correctly and that thing was a BEAST, I can only imagine what you have up your sleeve. Looking forward to seeing more developments for the 335 also, keep up the good work.

Thanks guys. We made some good progress today with the 911. Good enough to start dyno testing on Monday. Once we're done, we'll arrange for some impromptu races videos between it and our 335i. 0-60, 0-100, top gear 70-90, etc,.
