Gates in actual fact open more like 4:30, I wouldn't plan on getting there at 6:30 as you may find its full as it was closed for 5+ weeks in a row due to all the weather fluctuations we've had over the past 8 weeks or so.

Cool, what was the trap speed? ET isn't as big an indicator as performance without knowing what the trap was.

For example, I took one of my BMWs out last week and the track wasn't in great condition so the best passed I managed for the night was a 13.0 @ 116.81 mph. Where my PB is 12.3 in it, so the trap speed indicates that it was a slow pass for that car.

Post up the slip details if you can. Thats a good time for a stock? 335.

Your slip should look something like this one.

MPH= trap speed.

RT= Reaction time
60' is the first 60 feet of the pass when you leave the line and critical to what the overall ET is
660' is half track speed
mph below it is the mph at half track
ET is elapsed time at the end of 1/4 mile
and the MPH is the trap speed at the end of the pass.

So in this one for me it's 115 odd mph or alternatively its displayed in km/h below.

That's a good pass then! You must have has a 2.0 or 1.9x 60' time

I take it the car is stock?

Comparatively my M3 runs 13.5 @ 102-103

Dan,

As you may know, Wopalx and I are getting our car's dyno'd this Tuesday. This should give the three of us an accurate idea of what a 335i with PROcede is should be getting at the wheels.

If we are roughly the same, then it may have been your launch technique. My tip: Next time try it with the beer in the cup-holder.

Cheers.

Launch technique has nothing to do with trap speed though.

Trap speed is an indicator of the power the car produces. The 60' are indicative of how well the car hooks up.

Old revived thread....I know.
Launch technique has everthing to do with not only your trap speed but also your elapsed time. Depending on how he staged - Shallow or Deep, would of effected his ET and Trap speed. Shallow staging would have given him a longer running start to the Staging beam and thus a higher Trap speed and faster ET although his reaction time would be longer.
On the other hand, Deep staging will generally give you a shorter reaction time but a slower trap speed because the vehicle has virtually no running start to the staging beam and thus a slower ET to the quarter mile (400m) mark.
All this without even knowing at what revs he launched at. Did he disable the DTC/DSC to stop the intervention of the traction control or if he was even using any drag radials. So many variables ...don't you think so.

Yeah there are various variables under the scenearo you present, however deep staging or short staging isn't going to result in an extra 10 mph trap speed. In my own experience I haven't found that wheel spin isn't a determinant of trap speed, its solely down to how much power the car makes. For example, I've run one of my BMW's probably through 20 passes at WSID ranging from 13.2 down to 12.4. The trap speed is identical, the difference is down to wheel spin at the launch.

Reaction time has no bearing on the ET or trap speed. It's just an indicator of how well you started the pass.

From my own experience I've done over 35 passes in a variety of cars, the only car the launch has had a bearing in trap speed is my GTR which falls outside the norm here as it doesn't wheel spin or get off the line without huge rpm (around 8000) and even then it runs the same trap speed even if the ET is half a second slower.

The only way I've found and seen that trap speed can be heaps lower is if you baby it off the line and then get up it. If the car has some revs and even if it bogs down it doesn't affect the trap speed. As I said though, these are my own experiences from my pass journal.

Incorrect, launch and RT have nothing to do with trap speed which is a function of engine power.
