Picked up my car tonight - iDrive Fail
Hey guys,
After slumming around here for a few months, I finally picked up my 2008 BSM E92 335i from the local BMW dealership... not going to lie I'm pretty psyched with the car! The car is in great physical shape - just a few touched up nicks on the hood. Thanks to everyone who contributed to my questions and made my decision a highly informed one! Unfortunately, my iDrive decided to fall flat on its face when the Delivery Specialist was demo-ing it. At first it wasn't reacting to any of the button presses, then it was super sluggish, then it locked up completely. Restarted the car a few times and still nothing. So we gave up, he apologized a million times, and I said no worries, we can deal with it when I come in for the HPFP reinstall this week. When I drove away, it came back to life, but started making these high pitched noises from the speakers - clearly electrical noise. It was extremely annoying and gave me a headache but it eventually subsided - it was really distracting and I was feeling like I made the most expensive mistake of my life. The audio still doesn't work - no volume, no radio, nothing whatsoever. The original owners contacts and addresses are still in the iDrive... Once I came to terms with the iDrive just blowing chunks and the whining noise disappeared, I came to appreciate the sound of the engine, it's handling (dodging the massive potholes here in Waterloo), the torque at low RPMs is great, and I look at it and it makes me smile ear to ear. The car details: 2008 335i Coupe Black Sapphire Metallic Black Dakota Premium Package Sport Package Navigation (ugh) Comfort Access (surprisingly cool) |

Were you able to figure out what triggers it? Were you able to get audio out of the speakers at the same time? Did it eventually fix itself?

That's the typical CCC issues.
If you are seriously planning on using navi and screen aften, I would consider CIC retrofit since you will drive the car more than 3 years I assume.

what is CCC? what is CIC retrofit? I have the 08 with idrive too. Never failed but the navi is never being useful! I ordered the idrive is because I like the look of the hump on the center console.

CCC is the old dvd based nav. CIC is the new hard drive based nav.
The speaker buzz is a known issue especially on the '08 models, do a search on it in the audio sub forum. Many fixes have been documented. |

Thanks for the feedback guys - I'll take a look in the suggested forum.
The buzzing is gone now, but now I have no audio whatsoever (never had it in the first place...). But I'll give that a search in the audio forum as well. |

Through www.bimmerretrofit.com using their activation module (for nav, voice activation, and video in motion) it will cost just under $2200USD.
That said, depending on when your car was built you may have to swap in the original CCC system whenever there is a software upgrade. |

sorry to hear. Hopefully they will fix the issue for you once you take it in.
