The unit is a working system. There are some modifications that will be needed to your wiring system. Programming and map updates

Why is this so rare? How hard is it to convert a 335i to this or is it not possible?

99% of the units sold by retrofit vendors are Euro spec CIC units that don't have Sirius built in (you can use an external tuner, but you lose all the cool new features like pause, rewind, fast forward, etc.) |

No, it's pretty much a direct physical fit for any vehicle equipped with a navigation system. If you didn't have a Navigation system fitted from the factory, then you have to replace the dashboard and perform a bit of re-wiring in the vehicle.
Then you need to code/program the unit to recognize all the options in your car so everything displays correctly on the screen. But I could easily fit this into my 2006 330i. It'll fit any 3-series model. |

Did your car come with navigation already installed? That's where the real work is, completely tearing down your dash to install a new dash.

Check out http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=611032 for pictures of what you need to tear down.
Expensive is relative, you'll still have to buy a new dashboard (around $920 new not including shipping) from Tischer. Along with a new trim piece for the center console (another $200-300) and then some assorted wiring connectors and such. There's a couple threads on doing a full retrofit (from non-Nav to Nav) that you might want to check out. |

$600-750 brand new... I can find the trim lastly for $200-300.. were at $1050... plus the navigation $1200.. Were at $2250... and lets say another $50-100 for wire connectors? Lets figure $2300-2350 for the parts... any idea on how much it'll cost to code? Is it worth it in peoples opinions?

I feel for ya. Who knows maybe by the time the Misses lets you buy: the unit will still be available. All I get are ridiculous low ball numbers from guys who have no clue.
